Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 18, 2021

Hey Courtney,

I hear you about clothes, too. I bought a couple of “loungey” nightgowns that I can wear day or night, and there is a cool list somewhere in the boards that had a great “preparation” list. I ended up buying a tummy pillow & ice packs, mesh undies for right after surgery, nice undies for life afterward, a tummy binder... I’m a plus-sized woman, so I’m concerned about “swelly belly” making it harder to wear any of my clothes, but I pretty much live in LuLaRoe anyway... hoping it will “give” enough until things settle down. The mama guilt is pretty crazy... I’ve HAD 3 kids, but all were c-sections, and I had a tubal after my 3rd, and have had my own share of “guilt” about not having more kids - but I know this is best for me.

I’ve been really lucky, and have lots of support from family & friends, but I’m still nervous. Very grateful to have found this board!

Blessings,
Tammy

Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 18, 2021

Good afternoon! I’m 49 married and with a 13 year old daughter. Hit menopause at 47 and have been trouble free (or so I thought) until February of this year when I started lightly spotting and then in March, had several days of very heavy bleeding. After ultrasound, it was determined that I have early (they think) endometrial cancer which I recently learned my aunt also had. Getting it all taken out Tuesday morning. I had our daughter by c Section so hoping for laparoscopic but ready for either.
I’m very nervous but know I need to get rid of whatever is going on inside, the dull pain has me worried. Good luck to all!!!

Courtney, Rain, & Waters,

Glad you all found us. I agree with the clothing Rain and Tammy suggest, will add that a couple larger underpants will be helpful in the recovery time. And loose sweats to the castle or any thing easy to get on and comfortable. I wore the same thing to and took clean underwear to come home. Didn’t need the underwear because they gave me some stretchy ones at hospital the nurse gave me an extra pair. They worked great.

For those of you with the endo C might, you want to check into our Cancer Concerns thread. There may be a sister there who has had a similar worry.

I forgot to mention my experience of hormone change for you who are already through menopause. I was post but did notice a bit of a change in moods and some up and down of night sweats. It wasn’t bad at all. As soon as you all (no matter where you are on this hormonal road) a discussion with your Dr about HRT can be helpful. Also you might want to check out and read up on some of the articles here. Check out the heading on Articles in the grey band and menopause in the blue band above.

Sister Hugs,
Anndy

Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 18, 2021

Hi everyone! My name is Katrina and I'm 34. My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday the 20th. The last month has been a whirlwind. I feel like I waited forever to get tests done but I finally saw a surgeon April 1 and he scheduled my surgery right away. I already had a trip planned to see my parents and just got back from that, so it feels like I haven't had much time for my brain to process everything. I didn't even really read many articles on here and I'm feeling super unprepared. I got some comfort foods yesterday but haven't bought anything else. Is there such a thing as a last minute preparation list?

Yes Rain T, that is it! A dull cramp that won’t go away. I also recently noticed my stomach seemed distended. A bit at least. All the symptoms I have to say are very mild and could go unnoticed! Fortunately we noticed. Occasionally my left side feels like a dull knife is kind of stuck. On ultrasound that left ovary is double the size of the right. I’m honestly so interested to hear what the Dr sees when she goes in. Good luck and hugs!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 18, 2021

Good Morning,
I am Gretchen, 44 years old. My hysterectomy is tomorrow. I am having everything removed. I want my ovaries removed so I don't ever have to go through this again. I have CIN 2 and 2/3 with family history of the same so I am probably taking a more aggressive route than I need to, but I won't do chemo or radiation so better to get it out now. I am terrified to go to the hospital by myself. I am terrified of post-op pain. I don't like being inactive or counting on others. I am terrified of constipation and difficulty eating. I guess overall, I am kind of a mess today. I do have a lot of help after surgery, but that isn't easing my mind yet. Thank you for all the support. I hope everyone else has an easy surgery and recovery.
Gretchen

Aw Gretchen, I'm so sorry that you have terror. I expect to have a bit more of that as thursday gets here, by then you will be done and eager to be discharged. You won't be alone in the hospital, the staff is there for you( friends you haven't met, yet)..and I plan to take a tiny stuffed bear in my pocket. It is hard asking/needing help, isn't it? breath deep, and in 24 hours you'll be on the other side of it.

(((RainT))) I'm very sorry you've received this diagnosis but am glad it appears you're catching things when they are most treatable. It sounds like you're keeping a healthy outlook on things as well which will certainly help throughout this process.

For any issues specific to your diagnosis, we do have a Cancer Concerns forum you're welcome to check out, if you'd like. There's lots of good information as well as experienced ladies to share the journey.

I know this all seems overwhelming at the moment, but you can do this. Just keep taking one step at a time, and you'll be through the other side before you know it. Sending hugs and positive thoughts to you and everyone having procedures this week. You've got this!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 18, 2021

Katrina & Gretchen,

Katrina, so glad you got to visit with your folks and now they are getting you right in to have the worry behind you. Take a few deep breaths Sis, tidy your space a bit and then go for it! Try not to think about what hasn’t been done just think about caring for yourself.

Gretchen, you too, let the worries go. You can do this Sis. Think you are smart to go the aggressive route. In the long run it will give you some peace of mind. As far as the hospital and being alone, let those nurses take care of you. Also let the admissions nurse know you are nervous, you can talk to them and decide if they should give you some extra meds to help you be calm.

See you both on the other side, I will be there for all of you.

Hugs to all,
Anndy
