I Got My Date! (can I throw up on my shoes now?)
Hello fellow Hyster Sisters,
Well.......I've been waiting for that phone to ring and today it did. I go in April 18th at 7:30 a.m. As soon as she started to tell me I felt like all of the blood rushed out of my head. I don't know if I heard anything she said after that point. Not sure why I reacted that way - after all, I knew she'd be calling with the date. I'm in denial and I don't mean the river!
I go in on the 12th for my pre-op appt., not quite sure what will happen there but I asked my hub to come along so I don't keep driving right past the doc's office
Did any of you donate your own blood or have someone do that for you? I haven't talked to my doc about it - not sure if it's even necessary or an option - just curious.
I can't tell you enough how much this web site means to me. Never in a million years did I think a bunch of women who don't know one another could be so incredibly connected. Thanks to all of you, I love your posts and you make me feel great!!!!!!!
Lisa in Connecticut
PS Now the panic has set in - my wheels are in full motion trying to think of everything I should do beforehand -- what gets done gets done and what doesn't -- will have to wait

I know exactly how you feel...one of those "in the moment" moments where all you hear is the blood rushing around in your head????
It's a good idea to have someone go with your to your pre-op appts...for just that reason. Four ears are better than two! And be sure to bring your list of pre-op questions, and keep asking until you're 100% clear.
As to the blood donation: ask your doctor. Some like to do it, some do not, but I'm not certain you have enough time. If you are not anemic and you have the time, you may want to. I always do. All my other past surgeries, it wasn't used. For my hyster, I lost two units and was very glad to have my own standing by. Most of the time you won't need it, but if the thought makes you feel more comfortable, check into it.
Remember, we're all here for you 24/7 if you need to freak out amongst friends. You're gonna do GREAT!!!

I'll probably throw up too!
Hi Lisa:
I know how you feel....I've been waiting for my call too. I know its coming and this website is making me feel ready! I am so glad I found it as well. I have to have a TVH, because of very heavy bleeding and painful periods since my last child was born. I have been reading everything I can, to be informed. I felt really funny about having this done because I am only 29. Infact I will turn 30 the day before your surgery. I have found so many younger women that have had a hyst. Good luck to you and keep us updated. I am sending you a big

Hi Jodie and Karen,
Thanks for your replies. Nice to know we aren't alone. I was wondering if I could even give blood seeing I'm so anemic. My hub has the same blood type as me but he's a nurse and you know how that goes - he doesnt mind poking people but come near him with one? How soon beforehand do you have to give or have someone else give for you - do you know?
Jodie - not the best bd present in the world but this site has really helped me to at least ATTEMPT to change my outlook and think positive. I keep referring to the hospital as the castle and I love the punctured princess talk. Anything to help me as a lady in waiting........

Lisa
I will be having my surgery on April 30th and will be donating my own blood. I have appts for April 8th and April 15th as they can only get one unit per donation. You can have others donate for you as long as they are compatible with your type. Im not sure about your dh donating as there is some kind of rule I read about on that about having children afterward but may not apply to you since you are having a hyst. Ask your doc about it. If you are anemic you cannot donate your own. Good Luck and try not to worry about it too much you will be just fine!
Love and hugs
Jo

Hi Lisa
Hi,
You asked if anyone donated their own blood for their surgery, well my husband had back surgery and he donated blood as did I and they didnt even use his blood or mine, they recycled what blood he lost in this funny looking machine and just gave it back to him, they cleaned it first of course, but I am praying you do great. I have yet to have a Hyster but it looks like I may be having one in the future. I am scheduled for exploratory surgery and laser surgery to burn my fibroid off the 16th of April, so I will know more on how bad my endo is then. and I too will be going for my pre-opt on the 12th. I hope things go well for you.
I will have you in my prayers the day of your surgery, god will be with you.big to you.

Been There!!!
Hi!!!
Just a quick note to say your stress is very normal. This is a big deal and a big decision. I am scheduled for an LSH tomorrow 3/27. I have been through all the nerves, tears, and fears. The good news is I think I used it all up and just don't have any left.
I have prepared the kids, cleaned the house, left instruction with my sister in law......just in case!!!! Now I am soooooooo ready to feel better and get this over with!!!!
This site has been a wonderful source of info and support.....keep posting your concerns, ask lots of questions!!! Funny at my pre op appointment I had only one question.......the others had all been answered here!!!!
So fellow sister off to the castle I go!!! I wish you all the best in your upcoming surgery........see ya on the other side soon!

I Got My Date! (can I throw up on my shoes now?)
Hi Lisa,
Been there, done that!!!!
I'm counting down right now, two days to go!
My advice so far is to WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN! I can't remember anything otherwise!
I started writing down questions from this site and then added some of my own. I got a spiral notebook and just wrote all my feelings down as I went along too.
Take the notebook with you to your pre-op along with a pen. My Gyn, just took the book out of my hands and answered all my questions and then some, she is a great person! I also told her about this site, she thinks it's great and had me write down the site so she could use it for her other patients and possibly put it on her own website as a link.
Come back here often, it's a great place to listen, vent and learn!
Pam

I Got My Date! (can I throw up on my shoes now?)
I appreciate all of your replies!
Dianna - your big day is tomorrow - wow, I was thinking when I get to that point I will either be really excited to get it over with or really nervous. Maybe both. My prayers and thoughts are with you tomorrow.
Jo - thanks for the information on blood donation. Sounds like my anemia will prevent me from doing my own. Hub said he'd do it. I see the doc on the 12th but when I spoke to him today, his initial reaction to this ? was that if it were HIS wife or HIS daughter, he would have complete faith in the hospital's blood supply. Best of luck to you on 4/30.
Misty - wow it sounds like you've been through so much. I hope all goes well with your surgery too.
Pam - 2 more days!!!!! Best wishes and hugs too. I have started writing everything down. I guess part of me feels like if I don't take care of a lot of things before then my household will fall apart after. I guess I'll have to get over that. None of us are superwoman. I figured my nurse hubby can take care of me and our Airedale doggy just fine - I don't know why I think I'm the only one capable.
When I read your replies I get choked up - maybe it's this 365 days a year PMS thing I've got going on!
Doc's office called today to say the surgery, which was to be at 7:30 AM is now 1:00 PM. Wonders if that still means I can't eat/drink after midnight the day before. Guess I'll find out. UGH!
Thanks again fellow sisters. You taking the time to reply to my post is very touching and I will always appreciate your input.
