What to expect??

I am 38 and 8wpo bilateral mastectomy for DCIS, mid reconstruction with tissue expanders. No family history at all of cancer, but genetic testing showed I carry BRCA2 mutation and am at risk for ovarian cancer (along with a few others). Dr recommended removal of ovaries and tubes and keeping uterus and cervix for pelvic stability. I am 1dpo from bilateral ovary and tube removal. Surgical menopause will happen...but when and how? How will I know? I’ve never been able to sleep well. Insomnia hit randomly and I started having night sweats almost a year ago off and on. I figured I could be in perimenopause prior to surgery? What fun does surgical menopause have in store for me now that my ovaries were abruptly removed?

Being 1dpo, I’m in immense pain/discomfort from laparoscopic surgery. Initially dr said 1 week recovery, but today her nurse said 2 week follow up and 4 week approx return to activity. I’m curious about someone else’s experience who had the same procedure??

How soon you will feel the effect of surgical menopause is anyone's guess. It does take a while for the hormones your ovaries produced to deplete. There are plenty of menopause symptoms we can experience, such as hot flashes, night sweats, lack of libido, vaginal dryness, etc. For a comprehensive list, have a look at this link.

I’m 36 and just had the same prophylactic procedure on the 19th. Kept uterus and cervix. I am also BRCA 1 positive and have also had bilateral prophylactic mastectomy nine years ago.
I am a week post op and feeling ok now, I am also trying to find out when all the horrible side effects of surgical menopause will start but I am on HRT now.
How are you so far? You’re 6 days ahead of me in post op
