what's the average age of us Hystersisters?
Hi Ladies:
As I am reading everyone's stories, sagas, epics etc. I am seeing a bit of a oddity..in that it seems a lot of us are in our late 20's to early 40's..
Am I getting this right? Are we? I am 39 and have suffered from endo from the time was about 16 (symptoms started at 12).
If so, then it seems that no longer are hysters reserved for the older ladies in their 50's..it is for a lot of younger women who have suffered for a long time with endo, fibriods, bleeding, you name it.
So did someone put something in our water 30 years ago?
Lol..just being a bit silly but what are our average ages?
Amy

what's the average age of us Hystersisters?
Hello
I'm 44 years young - no major issues at all, until uterine prolapse........ - due to very, very weak pelvic floor muscles.............even though I did ballet, swam, walked and did pilates (pilates only the last year, before surgery).
DR thinks that possibly my pregnancy (just the one) made the situation even worse........
Still working on getting those pelvic floor muscles stronger.

That's a good question. It seems that I have seen all ages on this board. I'm 43.

the ages
I am almost 55-in September-I have only had problems in the past few years-I didn't have very many periods my whole life, which I considered a blessing! Now I am regular as clockwork-and still ticking. I am very active, swim, bike, kayak, golf, walk, cross country ski. NO signs of menopause, but the doc's say I have to be in perimenopause because of my age.
I was told by two dr's that I could put it off till menopause and be in pain until then, and still will need it, or could get it over with now. I chose now!

my age
Hi TilleyRae and other ladies,
I had a TAH but retained ovaries in January 2004 at the age of 22. I was diagnosed with endometriosis via laparoscopy at the age of 17, but was symptomatic for several years prior to my diagnosis. My symptoms, primarily pain, got to the point that I required morphine-type pain medication on a daily basis to control the pain.
I don't believe there is any easy age to have a hysterectomy, young or old, it is a major, life-altering decision.
Best wishes.

I'll be 50 next week, but have known that this was coming for 20 years! Don't know why I hung on for so long- just scared of the unknown, I guess. Wish I had done it a long, long time ago!!! By the way, I think us 50's and 60's are much "younger" than in the "old days"! I think we keep ourselves in much better shape with exercise, eating correctly and lots of activity. So, 50 ain't what it used to be!

I turned 49 two days after my TAH/BSO. Healthy otherwise. Doctor thought I had a large nasty fibroid. Turns out I had adenomyosis.

Age
I'm 41 and scheduled for surgery next month. I have 15 (count 'em, 15) fibroids, including one measuring 17 cm. I was first diagnosed with fibroids at 28. My sister had a TAH for fibroids at 33 -- including a bowel resection, as her fibroids had "branched out" and caused trouble. My mother and maternal aunt also had fibroids. I dread the outlook for my 13-year-old daughter!

I agree Lydia
I agree too that ladies in their 50', 60's and even 70's are in much better shape, physically and mentally than ever before.
Better health care, more education about our bodies and being more proactive has certainly changed things from what my grandmother experienced. I was not trying to be coy and say hysters were for "old' folks in any way! Just seems that more and more younger ladies have to have them for such things that used to be relegated to women who were more mature in their sexual age.
I remember a couple of GYN's I had used to say they could not believe I had endo at 18..said no way, it was for women who were more mature in their sexual age. I guess starting at 8 made me mature at 18!
