Re: Hysterectomy tomorrow 4/1: Please tell me what to expect?
Hi all, sorry I didn't reply yesterday. I was too upset. My operation was cancelled due to my surgeon being ill. I hope he feels better soon, he is a nice man, but this left me in limbo. I have a new date. The 20th April. xx

Re: Hysterectomy tomorrow 4/1: Please tell me what to expect? (UPDATED - surgery cancelled)
Oh no Did you have to do a bowel prep? I had to the day before my surgery. I can't imagine having to do it twice.
Keep your head up. It's better to go in with a healthy doctor than not. I'm sure having to re-prepare all over again mentally is rough on you. Take this time to make sure you are good and set up for post op <3 Make sure you have nice clean sheets on your bed before you leave, get a table set up by your bed, where you do not have to twist or stretch to reach things, do find some videos on youtube about how to sit up and lie back down on your bed once you're home and in hospital post op (this is a MUST to learn!) and do it until it becomes second nature. It will be the best thing you'll ever learn to do, trust me.
Get a bunch of time passers on your bed side table too. If you can find a little table with wheels, that's low enough to keep you from reaching too high, do that as well. If you haven't ordered a belly binder yet, do so asap, as well as check out the squattypotty dot com site asap too.
I think this wait was granted you so you can prepare a little more than you already have. Maybe make a week or two worth of meals you can freeze and have your family or friends take out and thaw and heat up for you/family. It will help a LOT. As i remember more things I'll jot them down here for you. Straws. get straws for drinking. It may work a little easier.

Hysterectomy tomorrow 4/1: Please tell me what to expect? (UPDATED - surgery cancelled)
If it makes you feel any better, my surgery was scheduled for tomorrow but was cancelled because my Dr had a family emergency. My new surgery date is April 14th. Please know...you're NOT alone!!! I understand your frustration and disappointment. The rescheduling hit me emotionally hard but, after I settled down for a few days I realized there was nothing I could do to change it. What I needed to do was change my attitude and refocus on my recovery. Every day is another day to prepare more efficiently. The Sisters on this site are way beyond helpful!!! Lean on us for support, encouragement and advice! Please keep us updated on your progress!!!

Re: Hysterectomy tomorrow 4/1: Please tell me what to expect? (UPDATED - surgery cancelled)
My heart goes out to you. I got a call from my MD the evening before and she told me that she wasn't feeling well and if I wanted to cancel the surgery it was ok. I burst into tears and said that I had my life planned around this surgery, what was the wait if we cancelled it, she didn't know. I told her to call me later if she still wasn't feeling well. I got a call around 8:30 and she was feeling much better and we went on as planned. The emotional roller coaster was horrible. Enjoy the extra few days to stock up on things that you might need! Don't forget to get a mask, ear plugs and candies for the hospital! Sending you my prayers.

Re: Hysterectomy tomorrow 4/1: Please tell me what to expect? (UPDATED - surgery cancelled)
That's so hard to deal with. It's only a day in the life of our drs but it's our whole world ready and upturned for this. I had a huge surgery just over a year ago. They cancelled on me twice. The 3rd time I flipped out. I understood b/c the surgeon dealt with a lot of cancer and very sick people. My surgery was not life threatening but the 3rd time wasn't acceptable. My whole world was prepped and ready to go. They changed things and put me back on the skate. I had to be on a liquid diet only for 3 days, clear liquids. It was the night before surgery. This surgery I had to bump 4 days before b/c my Dad had a stroke. It wreaks havoc on a person. I've been suffering daily headaches for a month now due to this. Just muscle tension headaches but still. Hugs to you. Glad it's not bumped too far off. Take this time to prep and do all you want to get done. I'm accomplishing tons.

I'm sorry you have to deal with a cancellation, especially when you were so close. Although, I am very happy for you that you were rebooked so quickly! This has happened to me several times, I understand how much of a let down it can be. Try to stay positive! It's much safer for you to have a healthy happy doctor than a sick one. Sometimes we can forget our doctors are human too, although I don't think you have best of luck with your upcoming surgery! It will be here before you know it!

Re: Hysterectomy tomorrow 4/1: Please tell me what to expect?
I have only just found this post and know exactly how you feel. I was scheduled to have a vaginal hysterectomy on the 1st and after fasting since the night before I received a call delaying my arrival at the hospital and then another at around 2pm to say my op was cancelled and rescheduled for the 15th April. To say I was devastated would be an understatement.
I had been calm and totally organised with my hubby that works shift work and two youngest children living at home aged 11 and 7 and it worked so well being school holidays and also had my mum staying for the first two weeks post op who lives nearly 5 hours away.
Mum left this morning as she has a procedure to be done the day after mine and I am now feeling very flat and am starting to feel very anxious about it all.
I really hope you are feeling better about your upcoming op.
