What was your recovery like from UAE?

Hello,

I am 25 years old and am am recovering from my first uterine artery embolization. I had a myomectomy in January and 10 weeks post op an MRI showed that my submusocal fibroids had already regrown. While taking medication to control my symptoms, I still have severe bulk symptoms as well as heavy bleeding that are greatly impacting my quality of life; I have essentially been "having my period" since December 2013 when I was diagnosed with fibroids. My ob/gyn surgeon recommended trying UAE before resorting to a hysterectomy.

The interventional radiologist who performed my UAE explained that I should experience relatively fast relief from my bleeding symptoms, and a slow improvement of my bulk symptoms (chronic pain, frequent urination, distended abdomen). Unless complications arise, I expect to have an MRI in November to determine how successful the UAE was.

For those who have had UAE, how long after your surgery did you start to notice improvements? At what point did your bleeding stop or normalize? Has anyone experienced UAE failure? Has anyone had a repeat UAE, and was the second one successful? And has anyone had a hysterectomy after their UAE, and what was the recovery like? Thank you in advance for sharing your stories.

Re: What was your recovery like from UAE?

I had UFE almost ten months ago and my bleeding issues resolved almost immediately. This was most likely due to the vaginal myomectomy that was done the following day.
I have no issues with fibroids or heavy and prolonged bleeding anymore.
My recovery was different than most women because of the size and location of my fibroids. And the myomectomy. It took longer to recover but the results have been very good.
Have a good recovery and take care of yourself.

Re: What was your recovery like from UAE?

Thank you for sharing, I'm hoping that after a few months I won't have fibroid issues any longer. Now that it's been a little more than a week since my UFE, my bleeding has improved dramatically but has yet to resolve completely. If it continues to improve, I'll be able to discontinue the medication I had to use to manage my bleeding which is something I'm very much looking forward to.
