Hello from NH. Am I alone here?

Hi,
just wondering if there are any of us in NH besides me? I'm in the Lebanon area. Just diagnosed with adenomyosis and polyps a few days ago and doing a TON of reading while I try to decide a course of action.

BBNH

It's great to have you join us!

If you've not already done so, please check out our Treatment Options Page which is packed with information, and don't hesitate to start a new thread for support in our Hysterectomy Options and Alternatives forum where others can share their experiences.

The NH Neighborhood forum is quiet, but you can view older discussions by changing the display options at the bottom left of the page. The default setting is to show threads from the last month only. Hope that helps!

We’ll look forward to seeing you over on the dedicated hysterectomy message boards for any support discussions or questions, but hope you'll enjoy local interests and topics unrelated to surgery here in Neighborhoods!

Hi there! You're definitely not the only one in New Hampshire riding in this boat!

I just wandered in here - multiple fibroids, polyps, and endometrial hyperplasia (without atypia) going on inside of me, and am just starting to try to figure out what to do. I just realized that staying with my current GYN is going to get awfully expensive - she only has surgical "rights" (or whatever they call it) in a hospital that my insurance doesn't cover (gotta love<> coverage - not!)... and I'm supposed to go in for a hysteroscopy and D&C next week, but now I'm waffling - among other things, the ambulatory surgery place where she'll be doing the procedure only uses an anesthesiologist that's not covered by good ol' <>, sooner or later, I suspect a hospital stay will be needed, and 2-4 days in an out-of-network hospital would probably put us in debt for a year or so! So I'm thinking of jumping ship and finding someone who can work with a place where EVERYTHING is in-network... plus I may end up spending close to $10,000 on tests and then discover that I needed the hysterectomy all along after all. So that's why I googled "hysterectomy, New Hampshire" and ended up here.

How have things worked out for you? I hope you're feeling a lot better now!

Sounds like a lot going on. The costs of healthcare is heartbreaking!
I'm doing wonderful!! Had my hysterectomy Oct 5th and have felt awesome since. Recovery/out of work for about 7 weeks and then right back to life. I'm more active and happier than I've been in decades. Best of luck to you!!

Re: Hello from NH. Am I alone here?

I am so happy for you - it must be such a relief to be symptom-free!!! Thank you for the reply. The "good" thing about the high costs is that my hubby has finally come around to being sorta-kinda o.k. with me going ahead with a hysterectomy, though he's still terrified that he's going to lose me to some medical error (he does NOT trust doctors. But I looked up the stats and the chances of me dying during the operation are less than 1% - granted the chances of things progressing to cancer are low, but with the hyperplasia, they're definitely higher than a fraction of a percent (hubby is an electrical engineer - he needs facts!).

He started to realize just how expensive obtaining definitive "proof" could get when I started getting my ducks in a row for next week's procedure - almost $8000, though < > will help cut my cost with most of it - though since the anesthesia folks aren't in network, that would be $1000 out of pocket right there! Plus the doctor says we might have to do it again in six months and then end up having to go ahead with the hysterectomy after all.... Don't get me wrong, he loves me dearly, but we definitely don't have money to throw away!

Thanks for replying!
