HRT after hysterectomy & BSO (7/1)

I hope I got the acronyms right in the title, LOL

How soon after surgery did you start hormones (if you did)? Do you wait for symptoms? Do symptoms start immediately or does Mother Nature give you a week or two to recover?

I'll call my doc in the morning, but wanted to hear from y'all.

Re: HRT after hysterectomy & BSO (7/1)

Your body will start to react almost immediately following surgery to the reduction of natural estrogen so you could start experiencing hot flashes for example pretty quickly. Do you have a plan for HRT post-op? You should speak to your doctor prior to surgery so you can have a treatment plan in place to avoid the discomfort of hormone fluctuation.

Here is an article to get you started:

Re: HRT after hysterectomy & BSO (7/1)

Hi Woofie43 -

There are estrogen stores in your body, so sometimes there can be a delay in experiencing symptoms. Other women experience symptoms right away - it really just depends.

I had a TAH BSO at age 46 and was rudely dumped into surgical menopause. I was really MISERABLE starting about six weeks after surgery, as my menopause symptoms became worse and worse. My GP put me on HRT - oral bio-identical estrogen. It gave me my life back, and it is better for my health.

Definitely discuss this with your doctor. The type you take and when you start after surgery depends on your own personal situation.
