Pre-op visit with Doc

had Pre-op today with my doc, she and I discussed the options and what should and shouldn't go. Always the big question keep the ovaries or take them out. I think we have decided they will stay unless when she gets in there she finds them diseased and needing to be removed. With my mom having died of Breast Cancer at age 50, I want to stay away from HRT if possible. Then it was onto the question of the cervix, staying or going, and again decided since no abnormal paps in my history, it will stay unless she sees something different when in there. So looks like just the uterus and fibroids will be going...in my opinion the less taken the better, unless there is an unknown problem. so the count down is on now...16 days and counting...

It sounds like you have a great doctor. I'm glad your pre-op went well and I pray that you have a successful surgery and a smooth recovery!

I also have a history of cancer in my family which is why I decided to have everything taken. My big fear in leaving my ovaries was ovarian cancer. There is no test for it, so by the time you know it is usually too late. I didn't want to take that chance so I had them removed. I went ont HRt after considering the options and speaking with my doctor. The risk of breast cancer with HRT was lower than the risk of osteoporosis without it so I went with the HRT. I have been doing very well so far. We have had to adjust the meds a couple times and I think we will have to adjust them at least once more, but for the piece of mind I go by having everything removed, no paps in the future and no fear of getting ovarian cancer....I know I sleep better at night.
