stupid things people say...

Here's a good one for ya....

I am back in college after years and years of life - and at school a week or so ago, I was explaining what's gonna happen with my surgery. There is one young lady who without being rude is hard to describe. The running joke in my family is "Don't waste your money." -(Paying for an education won't help some people....!!!) She is one of those people... she is 25 years old. Here goes:

Me: Yes, they are taking pretty much all of it out. (And I start listing ovaries, cervix, etc.)
Her: Huh? What are they going to do to you?
Me: A total hysterectomy.
Her: Omigosh - are you still going to have a vagina?!?!?!

I was beyond laughter..... I ended up just staring at her blankly.... and very calmly explaining what the procedure is. She is most definitely wasting her money on furthering her education! I have never met someone who knows so little..... She never ceases to amaze me. Poor thing asked a few days after that if I would get to keep my breasts.

From a co-worker in an email (who isn't very bright I might add)

What a WONDERFUL time for you to have had your surgery and to be off to enjoy the summer!

My mom says that once I get over this operation then I'll be as good as new, it'll be just like when I was back in high school!

currently at work, i'm in a training class with a girl that just had her 2nd child. another girl in the class asks her if she will be having more children. she says "oh no, i've had my tubes tied" "i told the doctor, why don't you just give me a hysterectomy already" -- i felt like saying, don't think a hysterectomy is easy. i had one last year and it's not fun. granted, she does not know i had it done, but still, i would never say something like that because you never know who you may be talking to. at least she has 2 children, i don't have any. i really agrivates me that people have children and all they do is complain about it.

I came to terms with not having children when I was in my 30's and didn't have my hysterectomy until I was 48 but it was still a shock to be reading through my emails when I returned to work to find out that one colleague had sent an email, copying me, to say I wouldn't be able to help resolve an issue as I was on maternity leave!

Luckily I still have a good sense of humour!

These are sooo funny!!!!!!!!!

I work with 6 men (am the only woman). My boss is a type A, driven, fitness freak. When I told him that I was going out for a hyster, he said, "well, is this just gonna lead to a bunch of other surgeries? You'll never be the same and you won't be able to lift over 5lbs ever." I was very shocked by this response, mostly because he is a man of very few words, and never personal ones. I finally got it out of him that (in his words) "his wife's innards got all mixed up inside after childbirth, and it took several surgeries to put all the pieces together again." LOL!! He was so uncomfortable grunting this info out... it was too funny.. I said, she must've had prolapse... he was like, uh, yeah. I assured him that wasn't my problem at all.

My 4 yr old daughter wanted to know what happened to my uterus. I told her that the drs. took it out, and then they look at it to see what was going on, then it is carefully disposed of. She started crying cause she said she wanted to see it, to see where she grew up! LOL!

After all my pain and complaining over the past few years, the people in my life were as ready for my surgery as I was! As a result, I can't think of any funny stories to share about things people said to me.

However, I do have a story to tell about what I said to someone. One of my male colleagues approached me to say he'd heard I was having surgery and wanted to know if it was cancer. I assured him that it was not cancer, that it was because of severe pain I experienced frequently. When he asked, "When?" I assumed he was asking when I experienced pain. So I responded: "after sex, at monthly times, after a pelvic exam, ..." and then I saw the look on his face. It turns out he was trying to ask him when my surgery was. Oops.

Not dumb but funny/silly

I am 57 and my oldest child is 31, when I told her I had to have a hysterectomy, she said "I quess that means I will never have a little sister."

My mom said if I would lie down more i would not have to have it down. I did think that was dumb, but she is in her 80's so I laid it to her age.
