Re: What NOT to say to after a woman has had a hysterectomy?

I had a guy tell me he thinks his father had a hysterectomy too lmbo!

And then another one, I told him I had multiple fibroids on my uterus. He asked me if that's what makes us really fat or really skinny...he meant thyroids.

But I truly hate hearing, ”ur back to normal” or ”my grandmas cousins daughters best friend was healed in 2 Weeks” like I chose to be stuck in this house with screaming kids while my hormones jump all over the place

Ahh..men! I think they may need a whole book on what not to say. I told one guy, who asked why I was in the hospital (after my son told him I was there but was afraid to say why) That I had to have a hysterectomy after finding out I had cancer and was waiting on pathology results to see if I would need further treatment. His reply.. "well at least it wasn't anything serious"

Re: What NOT to say to after a woman has had a hysterectomy?

How about the well meaning relative who tells people about your surgery? My husband told his boss. Did he really have to telll him what it was? Hippa rules state he does not have to tell them details of why he needed a day off to be with me in the hospital. I didnt yell at him about it. But to be honest I am annoyed. I let it go because he was so wonderful doing everyhting and caring for me. But i felt violated that his boss, who i never even met, was confided in that way about my personal medical information. It was nice to get that off my chest! Grrrrrrr!

Re: What NOT to say to after a woman has had a hysterectomy?

I had a friend just tell me "sounds like you pretty much went through having another baby"

Also, can't get over this one, we have a couple that our son is friends with their son. The mother thought she'd text my husband and explain to him that this will "throw me into menopause" and when I get my mood swings "everyone will know what it is" and I should look into hormones. Who does she think she is, texting my husband that??? We hardly know this woman.
I actually kept my ovaries, and, it's none of her business.

Re: What NOT to say to after a woman has had a hysterectomy?

I am amazed when people see you and can tell you are walking slow or hesitate and they ask, if you had surgery and what kind? Really? They want to know if it vaginal, dvh or tummy? Like why do you need to know and does it matter?

lol, or blokes who ask you.... the dairy owner asked why I was walking so slow (he's used to seeing me charge in and charge out), I explained it was surgery stuff and he said "oh what did you have....?" I had to stop and think, he's an Indian gent, didn't want to offend him or his culture OR my dignity. Answer: I dragged a garden bag that weighed 40+kgs and pulled some of my organs out. (which is true, it's what finished off my prolapses).
I have close family members (like my own mother) who say "Oh no more dratted monthlies". These are folk who know I have been on depo for many years and have not had a monthly (they were horrid), they know I had surgery because I pulled my insides to my outsides.......

Re: What NOT to say to after a woman has had a hysterectomy?

I hate hearing" you'll feel so much better. It was the best thing I ever did"! Well I feel like crap. I'm still in pain, not healing vaginally. I have weird chunks of tissue that fall out after the Silver Nitrate treatments I have on a stinking weekly basis. Stop telling me what a great thing this bad idea was.

Re: What NOT to say to after a woman has had a hysterectomy?

Ugh!!! People that see your swollen tummy and ask "how far along are you"

A guy that my husband talks to said in a concerned tone "oh my wife had one, your wife is going to change" ... Like into what??? A caterpillar??? Seriously? Thanks for freaking him out!

"You're milking it" is on the top 10

Someone you're close to and knows why you're holding your tummy and getting grumpy asking you "what's wrong" ... Really!? I stubbed my toe again THAT'S what's wrong

Re: What NOT to say to after a woman has had a hysterectomy?

My sister actually had the nerve to say to me "well, at least your problem can be fixed - I on the other hand have arthritis and will never be the same"
I won't go into detail as to her saying the surgery I have is minimal and that I should be up and around in a week.
Needless to say I have yet to speak to her since........

Re: What NOT to say to after a woman has had a hysterectomy?

My friend called me during my recovery and asked what surgery I had, I told her. She said well at least now you will have a flat stomach! I looked down at my ever expanding swelly belly and thought, yea right!
