Meeting the GYN this week to discuss ovaries removal (breast cancer)

So I had breast cancer last year and thankfully it was caught early and I just had my one year all clear. Originally I was on Tamoxifin after surgery and treatments but I had side effects. So then I went on Lupron injection. I wasn't thrilled about that. No side effects but it is a huge shot, every 3 months, I also didn't like pumping drugs into me and it cost 20K a shot - YIKES. So she recommended removing my Ovaries. I meet with my GYN on Friday. She does teach the Da Vinci process for this so I know that is an option. I am concerned about what my down time will be post surgery and what I can anticipate for the menopause aspect. I am 51 so I am right at the point where I am about to be menopausal anyway. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Meeting the GYN this week to discuss ovaries removal (breast cancer)

I had a davinci BSO (removal of both ovaries). There wasn’t much down time. I was down a day, on prescription pain meds 3 days total, on Aleve a week total. I was released for things at one week but no heavy lifting for an additional week, that was for over 20 lbs. I had incision pain only, 2 of them stayed sore after the week due to clothing snug around them. I had previously had a hysterectomy, and the BSO was easier with a much shorter recovery. I was already menopausal but did have new symptoms, which was unexpected. Any questions you have about my surgical experience I am happy to answer. I have both natural and surgical menopause experience now, if that would help.
