Hello Ladies,

I had a LAVH on Monday 8/18/14. My surgery went well. Thank God. I feel ok. I am very sore with some pain mostly when I have to move. I was surprised I didn't have to use more pain medication at the hospital and was able to walk to the bathroom and urinate. I am taking things easy. I have been eating soft foods and keeping myself hydrated. I have been urinating but have not had a bm yet. I am having problems sleeping. I barely slept at the hospital. I regret not getting a warm compress to bring with me at home. I will have to remind my husband to get me one. The pain is starting to kick in. So I will take the pain medication now. I hope I am able to get some rest tonight. I hope the rest of you ladies is resting and feeling better. Take care of you.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 18-Aug 24,2014

I had a total dVH and endometriosis excision today, and it was so much easier than I expected! I have lived in constant pain from endometriosis and adenomyosis, and honestly, even though the painkillers are out of my system at the moment, I am in less pain than I was at this time last night before the surgery! I have only needed a half dose of Percocet twice. I want to switch to Ibuprofen, but the nurse said my doctor only authorized Percocet. That's why I'm not on anything right now because I'm not in pain at all. I exercise all the time, so I think that is probably helping (at least that is what my doctor says, but I was skeptical until now!), but I know having a skilled physician plays a big role in it. And of course, probably some good luck, too. I've peed about 5 or 6 times. My IV is already out. I've walked the halls twice. I've been able to eat 2 full meals (I was sooo hungry after the bowel prep lol). Obviously, I'm moving slowly, but already I have realized this was the best decision I could have made. It's just such a relief because I was so nervous!! So far, the tips on here have proven to be very valuable. I am nervous about the hour and a half drive home tomorrow, but I am hoping a fresh dose of Percocet before I leave and a lot of pillows will help make it bearable! I hope everyone gets plenty of rest tonight...I joke that I've gotten more rest today than I have during the last several days with my 5 kids around.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 18-Aug 24,2014

Hello, sisters! Had LAVH 8/18, went well other than blood pressure really high (not normal for me) while getting me ready fo surgery so had to do quick EKG. I was cleared so they gave me a morphine spinal right before the anesthesia which kept me pain free for 12-14 hours (only other meds were some Tylenol & Motrin put in IV). Everyone said the morphine would make me sleep but I got in my room around 3:30pm & couldn't go to sleep until 11pm! Got about 4 hours of sleep Monday night, catheter & IV out at 6am Tues. morning & I was able to get up about an hour later to pee. Doctor came by at 7:30, asked if I felt okay to go home today, I said yes so I can get some sleep! Ha Ha Nurse gave me an oxycodone around 9am & I was able to get up again to pee & walk around room some & get dressed. Let me go home at 11am & with the pain med I took at 9am & my travel pillow between me & seatbelt, ride home wasn't too bad...the pillow is a must! I was okay until around 6pm & started getting more sore due to moving around house a little, took some Vicodin & Ibuprofen doctor sent home with me. I finally got about 7 hours of sleep last night. Feeling sore this morning so going to take it easy today. Doctor took out uterus & cervix, was able to keep ovaries but said removed adhesions from them & colon & uterus was little enlarged. Will find out pathology results when I see him in 2 weeks for check-up unless they call me before then.. Everyone take care, rest & take pain med as long as you need it! I have nurse friends that have told me don't fight the pain, it stresses your body more & you will heal better if you take the pain med. Best wishes for safe recoveries to you all.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 18-Aug 24,2014

Sisters, I have made it home. Surgery went well, did find out I had quite a bit of scar tissue on my left ovary, which is causing more tenderness. Sleeping in hospital...not an option. Pain is not as bad as I would have thought, but still taking pain meds as directed. Only issue I am really having is that last night I would wake up and have to urinate every hour. I am thinking it is from have tvt repair done, but will see how it comes along. Just trying to be a princess and not do much but it is extremely hard. Time to take another dose of meds and rest. Talk to you all later and wish all the other princesses a speedy recovery.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 18-Aug 24,2014

Hello...Had surgery yesterday. Not sure what the acronym is...laproscopic assisted vaginal total hysterectomy. Had ovaries, tubes and cervix out, too. Surgery was at 7:00 am yesterday and went fine, I'm told. I am one of the lucky ones,I guess, because I basically slept until 7:00 this morning. Other than when hubby came by a few times for a visit. I had the morphine to use as needed, but I slept so much, I really only used it a few times. Ate scrambled egg and toast for breakfast with no nausea, was able to urinate fine after the catheter came out, so I was sent home about 10:00 am. Hubby got the pain meds filled, but haven't had to use anything, yet. Feeling a little gassy, but that's about it. Just laying around and getting caught up on my reading.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 18-Aug 24,2014

Hello! I had tvh plus a&p repairs and monarc sling 2 Days ago (aug 18th). I am doing amazing! Just kinda "sore" down there. Not even bad. Barely a spot of blood. (Bled some when my packing was removed). Worst thing (like I had read a lot here) was the gas pain. Mine started up in the middle of the night after surgery and they coyldnt give me anything because my doc hadnt ordered it) a few position changes and it was tolerable. They called tge doc the next morn and he ordered some gas x. Then he came in around lunch and discharged me anyway. I was able to peepee on my own after catheter removal. The gas is persistent. I had not had a bm since morning of surgery and they had not ordered a bowel cleamse. I began taking stool softener and milk of magnesia and eating prunes. I was getting very miserable but finally had a bm a little while ago. I just wanted to give a positive report for all those that are reading here before their procedure. Hugs to all! Looks like we made it!

Hello Sisters. I had TVH on Monday removed uterus, cervix, tubes, repaired cystocele and rectocele. No mesh involved. The pain has been very minimal. Came home Tuesday afternoon after finally voiding. I was a bit dried out from high out put after being given lasix. I'm really grateful and surprised at my minimal pain. I'm walking around the den, eating light, and drinking water. Have my one week follow up Monday.
