Yay, I'm home!

Hey everyone, I had my TVH 02/22 and got home 02/24, mid day. I had a minor melt down before surgery since the nurse put my iv straight through the vein into tissue twice. OUCH! It had to then be done in the OR. Was supposed to be there at 6:30 and surgery at 9:00am but didn't get taken in for surgery till 9:40am. Hard on the nerves. Surgery went great. First night was rough.. I'm allergic to morphine so I was getting demerol (spelling?) and insulin (I'm diabetic, but don't take insulin) and my blood pressure dropped but my pulse was 130. So I got to spend some time being hooked to an ECG and being poked! Final decision was to take me off demerol and the insulin and everything leveled off. I went on percocet (once again.. spelling?) till coming home. I have a t-3 perscription that I've filled, but am only using normal tylenol. The post surgery pain is NOTHING like the pain I've been living with! I feel great! Already had 2 BM's... YAY!! (never thought I'd be that excited!) I hope everyone else is also doing good...

do you know why your back is hurting? from surgery? i know my dr. mentioned she would give me some type of "band" to wear around my belly. nothing. i do see her tomorrow so i'm going to ask. figured it was something they would give me in the hospital. i know while in the hospital they put an ice pack around my belly. maybe that would help? i'm not nurse or dr. though, so i'm not sure.

I have 7 days down and 7 more to go. I'm about to go stir crazy. It's absolutely true about I'm the only one who notices all the things that need to be done.

I'm counting my days down entertaining myself as best I can and not doing housework.

Hope you all are starting to feel human again!

Today is day 5 post op for me and its the first day that I actually feel human. The first three days were absolutely awful - I was really questioning my decision to have the surgery. Today is the first day that I can see clearly enough to know that the surgery was the right thing to do.
Todays monumental events are that (a) I woke up feeling human (b) I had a BM (I called ALL my friends to brag ) and (c) I'm actually anticipating dinner

Well, I am 5 days post op. I guess I am doing okay. First day I don't sleep most of the day, in fact, I haven't even had a nap today but I don't feel that great either. Had second BM so I guess things are progressing. Pain in abdomen different ( i guess not as drugged now so i feel it), more pressure it seems like. anyway, my surgery went pretty much as planned. had scar tissue from old c-section to deal with a uterus was double the normal size and attached to bladder but they got everything they needed to done. had some complications the next morning with morphine and sinus issues but are all resolved now. (Praise God).
hope all having surgery this week are doing well

Day Six Post-Op

Well ladies, today is day six post-op for me and I made my two follow up appointments with my surgeon. The first is March 27th that should I be feeling up to it we can discuss my working part-time, either from home or from the office so many hours a day. The second is for my six week post-op exam and that's April 3..both are at 9 AM! I notice other ladies having follow-up checks one week after and wonder what that would be for?

My big win today was that I SLEPT ALL NIGHT !!! I couldn't believe it..I was so excited! The gas has started to subside and I'm not having any difficulty with the walking other than being slow. I even went to check the mail all by myself this afternoon..After my 17 yo son put my boots on that is

My mom came to visit for lunch and we had a nice chat and I managed to check in via e-mail with work for a few minutes to say hello and give them an update. Its so nice to have good co-workers & friends. The only new thing I've noticed today is my is very much like my leg..pins / needles...so hopefully that is normal too.

I folded two loads of laundry and did the dishes...its all in all a very FULL day...

Again I can't say enough good things about the hister sister site...and when my computer starts to work a little better I hope to be over to the pre-op side helping out where I can...

Have a great night ladies...

One week now!

Cool! I'm at 7 days post-op and things are looking up! Had my staples removed today and I'm moving much better now. What a relief! The pain and the pulling from the staples were starting to drive me crazy!

Another good thing during my visit today: my doctor said that he looked at my pathology reports today and there was no additional invasive cancers within the parts they took out of me! My doctor also told me that the sharp pain I was experiencing on my lower right abdomen is the fascia, and that it would lessen in a couple of months.

So I'm still walking around like a turtle, but a little faster, and more upright. I'm glad to be feeling a little more normal than I was for the past week!

Hope everyone else is progressing well in their recovery!

Recovery from 02/19/08 Surgery

I am feeling great! Just relaxing at home now.
The only bad part for me were the after surgery gas pains.
They finally subsided Thursday morning after walking as my wonderful night nurse suggested. Got to go home that afternoon.

Not as Bad as I thought

Wow...so good to be home!! I had SAH on 2/19. Had to be in at 10:30 am and surgery was at 12:30 pm. I wish it had been scheduled earlier it was a long time to wait in the morning (worrying. no drinking, etc). I woke up in my room with a morphine drip, which was fine at first, but my pain was pretty bad and they gave me a dose of something stronger ...ahh relief.

The worst part is the stay in the castle. After the first night (in which I was nicely doped up) there is no sleeping! I didn't sleep for more that an hour and a half at a time. Between checking BP, pulse, taking blood, my machine going off, and all the noise, couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Also, the gas..defintly the walking helps, and on day 4 post op, letting out a little wind is the best feeling!!! Didn't have a real BM til this morning which was a godsend!!

All in all I think I am doing better than I had mentally prepared myself for. Still sore and swollen, but well on my way to recovery!!!

I came home yesterday from my LAVH BSO & am feeling so much better now - a little sore but not anywhere near as bad as I expected.

I had a bit of a false start with my surgery booked for last Monday 18/02 postponed to Friday 22/02 - but I was up out of bed on Sat morning, drains & drips slowly being taken out over the weekend.

I have had a bit of a problem with nausea & keeping food down, but this will get better in a few days I guess. Am being pampered lots at home here with flowers & foodie gifts, am relieved too that I have a good couple of weeks yet to get back to normal without rushing back to work.

Many thanks too for all the helpful tips & ideas to ask the surgeon before the op. Certainly before I found this site I had so many questions & was so uptight & worried. Its all over now, & wasn't so bad !!
