Kidney donation/hysterectomy

Well, in the middle of all of my stress and worrying, my Mom is now having access problems for her dialysis. So her surgeon is considering her for a kidney transplant.

At her appointment, I offhandedly said well when I have my hysterectomy and they yank out the uterus why can't they take a kidney too!

Well, guess what.... I am now in the process of being evaluated for a live kidney donor. Unbelievable!!

My Mom's surgeon has never done anything like this before so it is a first for her. They aren't sure I am going to be eligible because of my weight and family history of diabetes.

The additional part of the surgery won't add to my recovery time. The timing is strange, but it is giving me a whole lot to think about.

I won't know until next week if I pass the first blood and tissue typing tests. And my Mom won't get her final clearance until mid February for her to get a kidney transplant.

Once she gets her OK, then if I pass the first tests, I get to have an extreme physical that will take all day.

It would be great to make this into an outstanding positive!
