Meds afterwards

Im seeing alot of women using Torodol to help with post op pain. I am highly allergic to this med so I wonder what another good med is? I had an ablation on march 6th. The pain was so bad after I was vomiting my head off. They said had I been able to take Torodol I would have been golden. Im trying to see what other med is similar so I can research it.

Re: Meds afterwards

You should have a pre op appointment with your anesthesiologist that will give you an opportunity to discuss pain control and management. Tell them about your previous vomiting as well and they can put a cocktail together that can mitigate that. I had morphine initially and percocet with midol 800 after. You will have an opportunity the day of your surgery to talk to the anesthesiologist as well.

Re: Meds afterwards

After the ablation they gave me percocet and 800mg motrin. It worked ok, but I am still in pain its been almost 3 weeks. I didnt get to meet with them before at pre op but i did right before. They just said that theres not an IV form of Motrin except for Torodol which I cant take

Re: Meds afterwards

Usually they use narcotics post op---morphine or dilaudid IV, then Percocet or Vicodin pills. I'd ask to talk to an enesthesiologist before your surgery day if possible, if not then when they come around pre op. Also talk to your surgeon because that's who orders meds after the recovery room (usually). And do discuss the vomiting, there are meds for that. I never had Toradol and I did fine, there are alternatives, just that they are narcotics. Maybe they don't like to give narcotics after an ablation but they usually do after a hysterectomy. Best wishes for good pain control.

Re: Meds afterwards

Definitely let them know that you've gotten sick from the pain meds in the past. This is something that they can easily control and you do NOT want that strain on your abdomen after hyst. I stressed this prior to surgery, all the way up to the minute they put me under and I've done terrific, they were really great at keeping nausea at bay!
