Re: 21 weeks pregnant hyst straight after delivery!!

I wanted to Introduce myself. My name is Jackie and I just went thru your situation. I had my hysterectomy on November 28, 2012. At the time I was 22 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. I had a very serious placenta percreta that had also invaded my bladder.
You are lucky that you have at least made it to 24 weeks and the chance of viability. I was not so fortunate. I had to say goodbye to our baby the morning of the surgery and then went in for the hyster.
I wish you the best for both you and your little girl. Be very cautious and pay close attention to your drs and what they say. My drs found out much worse mine was when they went in. They said that if I had continued with the pregnancy to try and save the baby that I would not have made it out of surgery.
Please keep us posted and reach out to me if you need anything.

Re: 21 weeks pregnant hyst straight after delivery!!

Hi There
I read your post and just wanted to reply as I can not imagine what you must be going through and everything you have to digest. It is very scary and no matter how much the doctors, nurses etc reassure you its you that has the worries and thoughts. They do however seem to be keeping a close eye on you and taking care of you and your little girls health.

I had my little girl via csection but had to be put to sleep due to health and safety reasons and I was terrified I wouldn't bond or love her as I didn't witness her birth but it didn't effect me in that way at all and I loved her to bits immediately. I then suffered some complications in that I bleed continuously for 10 months following the birth which caused my Endo to return and caused so much pain I had a full abdominal hysterectomy when my daughter was 3. It hurt- a lot and I was in for 6 days but 10 months on its almost a distant memory and although at times i wondered it really was the best thing I could have done.

You will need rest and lots of it. You need to be with your baby girl and bond but not to be the main carer, just be there for the good bits of cuddling and feeding if you can. You must not push yourself too hard although at times you will want to. The more close friends or family that can help the better as it is tiring work being mum and most men will only understand for a short space of time then wonder why you are not able to do yourself. The hospital will give you a list of dos and donts and stick to it and do nothing sooner and most things you will do later. I was off work for 7 months as my body would just not get well and I put that down to caring for my toddler full time to soon.

I found post surgery a csection/ hysterectomy support bandage worked wonders for both surgeries as it stops the dragging down pain and helps you feel very supported. Big high wasted knickers are great as you cant wear normal ones on your scar, a wedge pillow or bolster pillow tummy support helps you rest as you will be very swollen for a while. You will be all over timewise so some lavender pillow spray and an eyemask can help you relax. A good all over body moisturiser and lipbalm is essential following surgery as your lips get so dry and meds make you very itchy. Take loose nighties into hospital as pjs will be very uncomfortable and some slipper socks with grip so you dont have to bend down to put slippers on.

My consultant suggested waiting 2 weeks post surgery to see my GP to discuss HRT so I made an appointment pre-surgery and discussed this with her so all I had to do was call her when I was home and she wrote the prescription after a quick chat over the phone. I am so pleased I did this as I could never have gone to the surgery.

I hope everything works out for you. I understand you will be scared but the doctors and nurses will be brilliant taking care of you and you will have an adorable daughter to get you through. I would have thought being asleep will be preferable and safest option as the surgeon can be much quicker and rougher when you are asleep although they may be able to keep you awake for her birth then send you to sleep for the op, its amazing what they can do so worth a chat and even a second opinion if you feel strongly.

This sight is invaluable for support during the happy and sad times so use it as often as you can. Its helped me loads as its one thong for a doctor to tell me something but its something to be believed when talking to real women!

Lots of love and luck

Love Hayley x

Re: 21 weeks pregnant hyst straight after delivery!! (babies mentioned)

I had a rad hyst immediately following my c section. I was awake for the delivery. Then out for the 5.5 hrs of surgery
My ob joked that he had the easy job- delivery was 15 minutes
That was 7yrs ago- you can read my posts or send me a note if you have any other questions
Good thoughts your way
