IVP complete with Prep Kit-UGH

Tomorrow I start the "prep kit" for my iVP test on Wed. After reading about all the pre op prep, I am dreading this prep. I can't figure out why I have to have clean bowels to x-ray my kidneys and bladder? I have to be on a clear diet from tomorrow morning until the test the next day at 1pm. I have to drink an 8 oz glass of water mixed with Tridate at 6pm and then 3 pills at 9pm. I am dreading this!!!! I am a special education pre school teacher and I hope I am completely empty and able to get some sleep before I have to be at school on Wed. morning! Sure hope this IVP is worth it! Anyone else have to have this test before hysterectomy?

I haven't had this test, but I'm an x-ray tech... you need to have your colon empty because the fecal matter obstructs the view of your kidneys and ureters etc... Being properly prepped makes a huge difference in what you can see. They usually do a scout film before the injection of dye to make sure you are properly prepped. Good luck!
