Fear of the Bed...

I have slept in my bed since day of surgery. First couple times it took adjusting to remember to use my elbow and arm to get up lol I'd forget but my tummy would tell me. I am also one that can't sleep on a couch or recliner. Best of luck to you.

Fear of the Bed...

Hi fellow-Jan 11th-er,
I sympethize with you, I must say getting in and out of bed has been the most difficult thing. If you have someone to help you, I've been using a step-stool, sit on the beg sideways, DH helps me swing my legs around (slowly!), then we lock arms and he lowers me down slowly (he said it wansn't difficult to so), but I'll admit each time we try a slightly different technique. Lying flat for the first time felt a little weird at first, like a feeling of stretching, but got used to that quickly. Today I was able to get out of bed by myself for the 1st time, by turning on my side and then pushing myself up by walking my hands along. Just take your time, take it slow, stop when it hurts and try something else.

Happy recovery!

Debbie

Fear of the Bed...

hysterscared35,

O MY GOSH!!! LOL,
Getting in and out of bed after a hyster!
We should all have set up a video camera when
we were trying to figure this one out!
It wouldn't be a pretty sight but I might be able
to find some humor in it now.
It had to be one of the most difficult things I've ever done.
I had no one to help me get in and out of bed.
My mom did the cooking for me but if she had tried to help me,
we both would have been lying on the floor!
I can only compare my experience to the game of TWISTER.
I tried to roll on my knees, put my right hand here, left foot there, ect.
The positions I was in!!! lol
I took to wearing pads in case I leaked before I made it to the bathroom.
It took me twenty minutes to get up. After I had rolled over onto my
knees I was so exhausted that I may have taken a nap before
I pushed myself to the edge of the bed.
I'm sorry I can't offer much help.
Like some others have said, lots of pillows help.

Fear of the Bed...

I am 4 weeks post op and still am afraid of the bed. I just got in to it last week, I was on a low couch(being 5 "ft ) for 3 weeks. It takes alot of pillows and my stuffed teddy bears to get in it, and don't even mention when the night sweat starts at about 3 am , and to get up to use the bathroom now with my frequent urination.FORGET ABOUT IT

Fear of the Bed...

Good Luck Becky!!!

I started sleeping in my within an hour of being home. I came home on Wednesday (after a Friday surgery) and I have had no problems.

I'll be praying for all my sisters who are still suffering enough pain that it makes getting in and out of an issue.

Fear of the Bed...

I did it. Stayed all night. I first laid down at 11 PM after taking TWO Lortabs. I took more than I normally take to combat any pain from the bed.

The first half of the night was bad. It took forever to get comfortable but I finally ended up on my side, almost on my stomach.

Bring on the hot flashes and night sweats. Had not had them in my sleep yet. Quite annoying. They seemed to last forever. I finally woke DH to ask if that **** heater would ever quit blowing. That was the nicest way I could muster at that moment to ask him to turn it down. So he turned it down and I got semi-comfortable.

Then came the nausea. Have not had that yet either. I ate some crackers, tums and water and tried to sleep.

Cue in the nightmares...I have had some vivid dreams since the surgery but these were too much. I woke up several times crying or near tears.

I got up once to go the restroom at about 4 am. (This is time I seem to wake every morning post-surgery...almost spooky) Once I laid back down, I stayed asleep VERY comfortably until 10AM! I got hot. Come to find out hubby had turned heat back up! haha

I have deducted that a lot of my issues may have come from taking too much pain meds. I will give it a go again tonight with ONE or NO Lortabs.
