Low grade fever, 4 weeks post op

Well I had 2 different post op infections. The first at about 3 weeks was an infection of the vaginal cuff. The second was at 13 weeks and that was 2 large abdominal abscesses. Both the first and the second were diagnosed by CT scan.

Yes my fever was only low grade 99-100.5 for both infections. In the end, my abscess made me very ill and I had to have emergency surgery to fix the issue. By then, my fever got very high. But that happened very, very quickly (less than 24 hrs) with lots of pain and other ways to let me know that something was dramatically wrong. My situation is unusual though so don't be scared by this, just make sure your Dr gets to the bottom of the low grade fever and solves it. On my second infection prior to D-day (that's what I call it) I had a low grade fever but I thought it was from my sinuses so I didn't even call my Dr. Oopsie

Good Luck,

Just wanted to let you know that blood work did not show anything. I'm kind of bummed about this because I am ready to feel better. The dr. did ask me why I was still taking my temp. I told dr. because I can tell I'm running a fever and take it to see what it is. I feel that they are not really all that concerned because all my labs keep looking good. I go in Monday for visit, and dr. is supposed to do vaginal check. Guess we'll see what happens then.

I would ask her about the CT scan when you see her. I did not have anything show on my blood work until my abscess ruptured. A fever is not normal.

Good Luck,

What is a low grade temperature actually considered to be? Mine seems to go up and down half to one degree rather regularly - is that normal? I don't know.

OMG! I too had low grade fevers for months after my hysterectomy. So, your question really caught my attention. I did the google search on the site as was suggested, and AMAZING...there are MANY who had fevers while they were recovering and many times they were in the evening! I sure wish I had known this when I was recovering!!! Like you, I was so irritated because no one at the doctors office would give me answers, and I thought I was some weirdo that wasn't healing correctly. We did test after test, and I even went to a internal specialist and did more test after test...all of which showed nothing!!!

Well, here is my take on it. I think some people get these fevers during the healing process while others do not. Based on what I've read, this can happen when your body is working really hard at healing. While they are low grade, they certainly do wipe you out, and many times, they seem to come at or around the same time everyday. I hesitate to tell you this, but my fevers went on for months...as in, they even came around after 6 months once in awhile. I was lucky in that they usually came in the evening after work. Then, eventually they went away.

Do try to do the google search on the hystersister site...I think it will make you feel comforted. And know, that they may be your body's way of telling you to continue to rest because you are still healing. I'm am also glad that you are staying in touch with your doctor, in case the fevers are a result of something else!!!

Best wishes to you!!!
