Did Pitocin induction cause my POP?

I completely believe that induction caused my POP and eventual hysterectomy. My baby was 2 week post due date and I was offered induction. Not truly understanding the possible future issues that could come from induction, I agreed. I was given Pitocin and with in 4 hours my baby was born. This was my second childbirth and it had much more intense contractions than the first. I am trying to find medical studies or any other study that says Pitocin and or induction causes prolapse. I have search on the internet but unless I am a medical professional and pay for the membership ($300- plus) I can not get access to the studies. Is anyone familiar with and studies or articles? Could I not be searching correctly?

Re: Did Pitocin induction cause my POP?

As a woman-to-woman hysterectomy support site, we don't have access to paid-for medical sites, either. There haven't been any discussions on our site of pitocin/oxytocin and later prolapse issues as far as I can tell.

The National Center for Biotechnology Information, U.S. National Library of Medicine, National Institute of Health website (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) has a very comprehensive selection of abstracts, summaries of studies and full studies. It's a resource I've used before when digging deeper into questions. The only one I've found was the effects of oxytocin in the post partum after vaginal delivery, and the conclusion from a small study was "Oxytocin during labor does not significantly increase the risks for the incidence or persistence of pelvic floor symptoms or worse vaginal support in the early postpartum period...."

We have an article on 10 Risk Factors for Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP). Childbirth itself is one. As many women who have been induced (I was a part of an internet forum when I was pregnant and probably about 1/3 of my cohorts were induced), it seems that if pitocin was thought to increase the risk of prolapse, info would be more readily available.

Maybe you'll be able find a reference in the NCBI-NLM-NIH site. If you've seen an article and can remember exact wording of the first line, even Google might be able to offer a hit.
