Re: Do you ever have to stop estrogen patch if you have no ovaries or uterus?
Was glad to see this post. I have been looking for this exact question. I too am 60 and on a hormone patch. I now use 0.05 vivelle dot. In September I suffered a cardiac arrest while biking and was fortunate my husband was able to perform cpr until the paramedics got there. My cardiologist said I could continue with the hormones but my family doctor had suggest I come off. I have no uterus or overies and from what I have read it seems that the protection of bone loss and heart disease I should stay on them. Just read so many conflicting things! My cardiac arrest was from genetics, and I lean towards the cardiologist saying it was ok to continue. Thanks for all the info in this thread!

I have been on estrogen replacement continuously for the 40 years since my total hysterectomy with removal of both ovaries. I know that estrogen is vital for my wellbeing and intend to stay on it for the rest of my life.

Re: Do you ever have to stop estrogen patch if you have no ovaries or uterus?
I was on oral Premarin for the past 12 years since my total hysterectomy and ovaries removal. It worked great for me. I was off for a few months when I had to no insurance and I was totally miserable. I have also read about the benefits and risks of being on it long term. I believe I have benefitted, but my dr says I am old enough (51 yrs) to not need it anymore and won't renew the scrip (even after he said I should wean off instead of going cold turkey). So, here I go, it has only been 5 days so far. Even with the hormone I had some hot flashes and night sweats. I have noticed a slight increase so far, but what troubles me now is that I am having aches and pains where I didn't before, especially in my back and feet. And now I will probably have to have bone density tests since bone loss after menopause runs in my family. My hubby doesn't understand (yet!). He said, if the dr thinks you are risking your health by taking it, then he is probably right. Then I reminded him that the gyno that did my surgery said I could be on it forever if I needed. Too bad he retired. Keeping fingers crossed for myself. Hope everything goes well for you!
