Prolapsed Fibroid
Hi. This is my first post so bear with me. I have a prolapsed fibroid that has brought my uterus down to Stage III with it. I've gone to two doctors who tell me I must have a hysterectomy.
My questions are:
1. Has anyone just lived with this without surgery?
2. I'm almost three years since my last period so I'm menopausal. Is there any way this will shrink on its own?
Thanks for reading.

Re: Prolapsed Fibroid
Okay.
I thought fibroids 'dried up' after meno? I was told that by my gyno, who suggested that I try to preserve my uterus until menopause, which should result in the fibroid 'drying up' (or shrinking). Has your doc verified that it actually is a fibroid that is causing the problem...or, is it a matter of time after meno that we can anticipate fibroid shrinkage?
I hope someone here or your doc gives you the answer or provide insight into your inquiry because I am in the "before" stage of where you are right now, so whatever the so-called answer is applies to me also.
Please keep us posted and I wish you (and I) the best outcome.
Take care

Re: Prolapsed Fibroid
I was diagnosed with "a big bag of marbles" about ten years ago. I was told the they would shrink and or stop growing upon Meno. Well Menopause started at 38 (7 years ago) My largest fibroid doubled in size this past year. Probably becasuse I was taking Estrogen (bio-Identical) for the meno symptoms. I am now 8 weeks recovering from total Hyst. I feel great!!!! Have had a great exepeerience and everyone is really supportive! My body feels like it is finally functioning correctly after years of feeling yucky.

Re: Prolapsed Fibroid
I wondered that myself, but the doc said that because mine was "degenerating" that it wouldn't go away by itself, and it would continue to negatively impact my other organs and tissues around it, and therefore needed to be removed. He advised the hysterectomy. I got a second opinion, who advised it as well.
I would ask whether it's degenerating, and how it's impacting the rest of your internal organs and structures.

Re: Prolapsed Fibroid
Thanks guys. I thought a fibroid was a fibroid was a fibroid. I have a well-woman's checkup next month and will check with the doc about the kind I have. All I know is that it's a small one that hasn't grown much, but don't know anything else about fibroids. This forum is causing me to really consider future options now.
Take care.

Re: Prolapsed Fibroid
Thanks to everyone who answered my questions. I talked with still another doctor about my problem for a third opinion. I told him I am experiencing no problems, no pain, and I'm hardly aware I have a prolapse ... well, except when it insists on peeking out to see the world. I asked him if there was another option to hysterectomy and he said, "Do nothing! I think it is a very appropriate option."
That means I'm okay right now, but I should diligently watch out for signs like pain, bleeding, etc.
I've read somewhere, maybe here somewhere, that fibroids take as long to shrink after menopause as they did to grow before menopause. I guess we can't expect the instant disappearance of the stupid things once we hit menopause.
My fibroid isn't degenerating right now. It's just trying to be "delivered" from the uterus at a very slow rate.
Estrogen definitely does make fibroids grow. Lousy parasites. I never took any Hormones or I'd hate to think what I'd be dealing with right now!
