Possible new treatments for alternatives to hysterectomy

Hi ladies,

Although I had NO problems with my hyst and am VERY glad I did it ... I know many on this forum are looking for alternatives, so thought I'd post information from an article I read recently about some new treatments.

1. NovaSure - a treatment that will be available to gynecologists this month (Nov. 2001). It uses radio waves to zap the lining of the uterus to help with heavy bleeding, primarily that caused by menorrhagia. Caution: Use is currently limited to women who are pre-menopausal AND do not plan to have children. It is an outpatient treatment requiring only light anesthesia.

2. Hydro ThermAblator - approved earlier this year - it is a tint telescope the doctor uses to look at the uterus, then break down the endometrium with heated saline.

3. Lumenis - similar to Hydro ThermAblator, only it uses lasers not saline to break down the endometrium.

Here is the article that I read about it:

However if you want more scientific info I have no idea where to look. Maybe Trish or one of the 'experts' can help.

Possible new treatments for alternatives to hysterectomy

I had an Endriometrial Ablation just a week ago, surgery went fast, healing was a piece of cake, just waiting to see how it will work. Only took 3 days off of work, really no pain just being a little tired ( you know effect of the anestisia). The nurse that helped me through the surgery said she had it done 7 years ago and hasn't had a period since. So I'm very hopeful it works.
