A Diagnostic Hysterectomy???

3 months ago I had lower back pain: went to Internist who sent me to my gynocologist. They did CT scan, tv ultra sound, CA 125 tests. CA 125 was normal. TV unltra sound showed very enlarged but uniform ovaries, enlarged uterus and fluid. Had all tests repeated last week. No increase in size but all conditions the same. Will have repeat CA 125 this Monday. My doctor is telling me I have two choices: wait three months and do test again to see if anything changes, or have a hysterectomy. He doesn't feel there are any other "diagnostic" alternatives. I'm 56 (post menopause), have no bleeding, no pain....tons of huge fibroids. Obviously, waiting if something might be wrong is terrifying. Having a hysterectomy if I don't need one is terrifying, too!! Any advise, options...experiences would be really appreciated. (I did have a second opinion which was as "iffy" as the first...)

A Diagnostic Hysterectomy???

Gosh, I can imagine your frustration. I think I'd want more than an iffy opinion, especially being postmenopausal~ when symptoms can sometimes improve. Could there be another cause for your back pain other than the fibroids? Maybe a 3rd or 4th opinion would help. Here's a link that might be helpful: The Fibroid Place

It's a tough decision, take whatever time you need to get opinions, educate yourself, and find the solution you are most comfortable with.

I hope you feel better soon.
Best wishes & gentle s,
Beth

A Diagnostic Hysterectomy???

Thanks so much for your support. I'm feeling a bit more sane, today. I've decided that first on my list is to find the very best gynecological oncologist in the area and have them take a look at everything. As it stands, right now I don't even have the back pain anymore!! This whole saga is the result of what two radiologists and my own doctor think "just doesn't seem right" on the ultrasounds. But yes, I'm certainly going to go through this very, very carefully. Thanks again.
