New
I'm 33, have had 3 vaginal births. One year ago, may,I started bleeding heavy after my period, cramps, bloating, extreme pain. I went to the ER, the sent me to my Gynocologist he said it was just a crazy period, then put me on 3 months of progestrone. It went away, my periods are long and heavy all year but not like that. 8 months later my periods were every 25 days till the end of January, I have had a period with the exception of 10 consecutive days in February. Hormones did nothing. I counted 200+ tampons when I finally was given an ultrasound that showed nothing unusual:/. Well, I had a laproscopy done on may 15, 6days ago to see what the problem is. In an anesthesia fog my doctor showed me post-op images of my very very large uterus and how soft it was when pressed. He said its adenomyosis, he sees nothing scary or strange. He also showed me minor infection under my tubes, he tied my tubes. I had a paraguard IUD removed, which I had for 3 years, DnC, tons of pathology sampling and possible cyst rupture. I was so out of it when he told me this I can't remember if I saw picture or video. Anyway he said we will wait for pathology, see you in two weeks, we will talk hysterectomy! So here is my deal. Why didn't he just take my uterus during laproscopy and another surgery?!? Back to back? I'm freaking out. I'm in so much pain it's rediculous. Does he need pathology to do a hysterectomy for insurance? I have a 3 year old and I can't run after her like this. I have an 8 year old and 13 year old. It's summer soon, ahhhhhhhhhh

Re: New
One last thing. I have severe allergies to so many things, maybe I had an allergic reaction to the copper IUD? Is that crazy?

Hi Dandes! Sounds like you have had a rough road. Take a deep breath. Glad you found this site though. It's a big help. Did you have all those procedures done at once just recently?
You asked why he didn't just take your uterus during that last procedure. The short answer is for legal reasons. You didn't consent to a hysterectomy. And I'm sure he's waiting on pathology to know how to best treat you. There are certain hysterectomies that they do for cancer vs non cancerous reasons. If there is a risk of cancer, they want to take the entire uterus as a whole versus cutting it in to pieces to remove it. It will also tell him more of what he's dealing with. Insurance doesn't really play into that decision, but it is good to have all the info you can when you need a major procedure.
Can you call and get something to take for the pain? Can you enlist the help of your older kids to help you with the little one? To help burn off energy?
I know it's scary but you can only take it one day at a time.

Re: New
Hi Dandes!
When I first saw my Gyn in January, they determined some but not all of the issues I had. One thing they did was a biopsy. The biopsy came back inconclusive for cancer, but definitely had pre-cancer so we knew back then that I would be having a hysterectomy sometime this year.
In March, we did a hysteroscopy. I asked my doctor why we needed to do that and didn't just do a hysterectomy since we knew it was going to need to be done.
After he got done drawing pictures (he is pretty good considering most were upside down so I could see them - but his handwriting is atrocious) he explained that the results determined the type of surgery, and if they were able to do everything here in town or if I needed to go further away (about an hour to the next larger city.)
Of course your story could be different. If you are now feeling out of the fog from the laproscopy, I would call your doctor and ask for a consultation. You have the right to be aware during any conversation of your health. They don't get rid of the pictures they take - those should be in your file. So they should be able to answer any questions you have now.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

Re: New
Thank you, exhale... I don't want my kids to have a sick mom!! I am basically useless on narcotics so I suffer. I just want to feel well. It's scary and I'm starting to obsess over the unknown. Waiting for pathology, playing out senerios on my head of what could happen. I'm worrying!! I know what to do, I'm a psych undergrad. I'm trying to keep home life as normal as possible by hiding my obsessing irrational thinking. It's hard. I'm the strong one. I help others, ugh. I keep emotional eating, actually thinking this might be my last meal..rumination is powerful. I just am so glad to read everyone's stories and feel less alone. Hopefully it's not cancer!!! I get a hysterectomy, it's simple and I feel wonderful after recovery. Chin up

Re: New
Yes, I had every procedure done at the same time, 6 days ago. I had one abnormal pap 4 years ago, HPV but normal ever after. I have a post-op consultation with video/pics and pathology findings next week.

Re: New
anything is possible! but i agree you did not consent for the hyster so they could not legally preform it then. if it was an emergency they would have gone to whoever was with you and gotten consent from them. they did not do this so he must have not thought it was an emergency at that time. take it easy and recover from the procedure you just had. it took me 5 years of suffering to finally go and have mine done which will be tomorrow. they told me 5 years ago i should have it done but have kept putting it off till this past march i found out i could not put it off any longer. since i almost had a major stroke, because my blood pressure while i am bleeding gets so high. i have also had abnormal paps so they are taking uterus, cervix, and tubes. and leaving the ovaries. unless there is something wrong with them then he would take them as well. but we don't forsee that to be the case.
