Should I ask 4 a "BLADDER Repair THING??As well????"?

I've read that lots of people have had "bladder slings" (I think thats what they are called)??.
Anyway is it worth while me asking for one to be done with my abdo hyster (In 12 days time) OR Not?, or am I TOO late to request this???.
What is the criteria for needing this procedure?, I feel alot of pressure to pass urine from time to time esp with period time, and occassionally spill a bit whilst sneezing.
Thanks for your advice if any??

I asked my doctor the same thing-could he do it as a preventative measure so I wouldn't have to have it done later. I also asked about the procedure where they attach the top of vagina to something to keep it from prolapsing. He said No, mother nature does a better job of keeping things in place. He would only do it when and if it ever happens. I used to feel the pressure to urinate just like you mentioned but the good (great!) news is-that is gone since my hysterectomy on oct 30th. It wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor. Good luck to you!

my doctor is the one who had me take a bladder test to see if i needed a sling or not. he is the one that was suggesting it to me, i never brought up the fact that i did "leak" at certain times. (this was after he had performed my yearly exam that he started asking me those questions, so i didn't know if he could tell just by the exam if i was having problems or not.) he said that if i qualified, he would do the procedure now with my tah so i couldn't have to go in at a later time and get it done. the test they performed was having me come in the office with a full bladder, empty my bladder, which they measured, then they put a catheter in (not sure if i spelled that correctly) and filled me back up with fluid and then had me cough real hard to see if i leaked etc. they also inserted a tube in my vagina for some reason, but i can't remember. (as you can tell by reading this, i have very little knowledge in the medical field, i have been very blessed to not having health issues, so i have never researched into any of this!) i was first told by mr dr over a year ago that i needed to do this bladder test and have a hysterctomy, but i kept thinking i would go for a 2nd opinion somewhere, but i never did, so at this year's exam is where he had me have another sonogram of my uterus etc and said i had to have the surgery and i couldn't be like an ostrich sticking my head in the sand hoping it would all go away! so we scheduled my surgery 2 weeks after that meeting, so i really didn't have alot of time to research at all. This website is fantastic!! good luck on your surgery!!!

Bladder Repair??

I had a TAH w/ bladder sling on 10/2. The test to see if you need the bladder sling is called a euro dynamics test. I talked to my Dr. and he had the test done the week before and found that I needed the sling. It is a lot different when I have to go now. Before I would be rushing to avoid any leaking. Now, I can hold it longer, don't leak when I sneeze and when I sit down to go I have to wait a few seconds before it even starts. I am so glad I did it at the same time. I am 41 and would not want to have another surgery for this if I could avoid it.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

My gynie said this is the time to do it! I am having a TVH. The preadmit nurse wasn't surprised and said that it was typical to be done at the same time because if not, most women show up to have it done in a few years anyway! Very common. I had no tests done. He wiggled his hand around on the physical exam and asked if I had incontinence(I was about to bring it up). I said oh yeah-after passing 8 pounds 14 ounces of baby, my bladder wasn't the same at all! He said my bladder neck was very loose. But i can go months with no real problems and only a little bit of leakage on an occassional cough/sneeze, but then get a bad cold and the whole thing empties everytime I cough. Or even a small cough sitting in the car(must be the angle) and you guessed it! Truly, the whole bladder empties-whoosh!!! So one of these days I'll be caught out and it'll be embarrassing. Because of the excessive bleeding I have resorted to toddler diapers which really are the only thing that could catch it all-but even then it can be alot. So a no brainer for myself and doc that now is the time to do it. As he said its better to have the general anesthetic once-less surgeries the better. Hear, hear!

Hi, well your dr once he gets in there let him decide then, mine went a head and did the bruch tracking even though NOW I feel I didnt need it. read on if you want to know more..

I really was happy when I was told I was getting a bladder neck tuck call a Burch Procedure to help with my incontinence that had started 8 months before, slowly then a lot. BUT>>>>>>>> turns out I didnt need it after all.

After surgery I got my photos of my inners that were removed and I saw HOW BIG it all had gotten between the five month size uterus and my grapefruit size cyst on my right ovary, and my many many cysts on the rest of my ovaries. I found that then the pressure of those monsters pressing on my bladder was pretty much to blame for my urine inconstancy now they were gone... Also I found out I should use a few times a week some Estrogen cream in my va ja ja to keep my bladder walls moist and keep them growing strong. I feel my Burch was not necessary!! NOW its been since JULY 2007 and I cant fully void after gettign the bladder tacking and have pain in my bladder due to it. My UROLOGIST says I need to have a ultra scan done of my kidneys to make sure the backed up urine I cant pass isnt backing up into my kidneys IM SO WORRIED Then he is going to do the cystoscopy with hydrodistention

I cant fully void I have moved to and fo stand and sat and knees up and legs crosses all to get my urine to pass completely. Here year plus later I will most likely have to self cat my self for life.. UGH IM WORRIED.
