Meal planning? Meal planning?

Meal planning?

I have my TAH scheduled for 5/27. I'm a bit of a control freak, and I've decided that to satisfy that part of my personality, I need to do some planning ahead of time. Hubby will be my main caregiver, but my sister is coming to help for a week as well. I'm going to do a major shopping trip before hand to stock the pantry and fridge for the week that she is here. What kinds of meals/foods would you recommend that I stock for me? I'm assuming that light meals/foods will be best but any suggestions would be welcome.

Re: Meal planning?

It is your own taste as far as meals post op. I personally had a deep craving for "rabbit food" with grilled chicken. Not only did it help with the bowel movement issues due to pain meds and Lord only knows what else that they give you in surgery, but it was light and didn't make me gassy, which there is enough of that anyway! I would really suggest however, to avoid foods which tend to cause gas, as gas is painful (or was for me at least) and not something I wanted to go through just to eat ham and beans! LOL With the weather getting warmer, my personal favorites are more fresh steamed veggies and fresh fruit with less meat. Good luck and hope it helps!

Re: Meal planning?

I avoided any foods that I knew caused gas or constipation for me. I tried to eat high fiber and easy to eat foods. I did find that my tastes had changed somewhat for awhile. I love coffee normally and could not stand to even smell it for awhile. Everything did get normal after a few weeks.

I'd plan on having my favorites but also to be flexible, just in case

Best wishes.

Re: Meal planning?

Thanks for your suggestions. I agree that with the warmer weather, eating lighter is definately easier. And I'll be sure to avoid the gassy foods. Thanks again!

Re: Meal planning?

I am the same way. Had my LAVH on 4/20 and went crazy getting groceries the weekend before. I found that high fiber foods were best. I ate lots of hot/cold cereal (multi grain) with fresh fruit added and cooked veggies. Soup is pretty good too. I found that I felt really bad after eating meat and heavier foods. Chicken and fish were a little easier to handle though.

Best Wishes!
