TWO questions

As I said before I have a chair that I always use, it's great for shaving legs. But to make it a lot easier, I also have a hand held shower head. And while recovering, the chair is great to have in case you get tired of standing.

TWO questions

I found the shower chair to be very useful. I used it in the hospital and got one when I got home to use in the shower for the first week and a half. It really helped as I was weak and would sit some, and stand some. I also used the elevated toilet seat and that was wonderful as I am a tall person and getting down to the regular toilet seat would have been very uncomfortable.

TWO questions

I stood up to shower and did ok. I was weak but just took it slow.

I'm not sure what to tell you about your sneezing and coughing. I couldn't stop throwing up after my surgery and was so afraid of what it was doing. I also go through sneezing jags after I eat. I would hold my stomach but it still hurt sometimes.

TWO questions

As soon as my catheter was out (on day 2 in the hospital), I couldn't wait to shower. I sponged myself the first day to get all the iodine off me (the nurse missed a few spots) and that was a little refreshing anyway. But on the second night, I used the huge walk-in shower at the hospital and even shaved my legs! I was so sweaty in the hospital and it felt great to shower, just standing and having the water flow over was nice.

When I got home, the same thing. I just made sure I held onto the walls before getting into the tub. I had a TVH and I spent a lot of time stretching and excercising before I went in for the OP. I think this helped me a lot.

As for sneezing and coughing, hold your belly for support. Take OTC allergy pills if you have bad allergies, and maybe some benadryl for nightime (it helps for sleep too).
But, everone is different, just listen to your body!! Don't strain at all!! You'll regret it for sure!!

Good luck!

TWO questions

If you can fit a chair in there, I would get one. You will be weak and so tired for awhile.

Take allergy meds, yes!

TWO questions

I showered standing up without a problem. I had to sponge bathe in the hospital (5 days). The day I got home I went in the shower and even shaved my legs without a problem. I used a pillow against my belly when I had to sneeze or cough. It helped. Good luck.

TWO questions

I used a metal folding chair (borrowed it from church) and put a hand towel on it so my fanny wouldn't get too cold. Worked like a charm. And it was free.

Good luck!

TWO questions

I had a TAH on the 12th. Showered at the hospital before being released on the 14th with no problems- even stood to blow dry my hair!

I have been showering at home everyday with no issues- I don't need to sit down even though my shower has a built in seat. I have needed no assistance at at all!

TWO questions

My shower has a built in seat, and I have made the most of it! Shaving, just being tired...I find I have used it quite a bit.

As far as sinus issues go, keep up the claritin, and make sure your doctor knows if you feel something coming on. They may be able to stop it before it gets too out of hand.

Good luck!

TWO questions

I found that I couldn't stand up in the shower after surgery, so I hired a shower stool from the local pharmacy/chemist, it was relatively inexpensive & I used it for 1 month. My husband also had to be on call during showertime to hand me the shampoo, conditioner etc. as I was not able to reach/stretch to get them!
Avoid coughing & sneezing at all costs. It can be excrutiating !! If you can't stop a cough/sneeze just make sure that you hold your stomach, or use a pillow! I found that I had a very dry/itchy throat for the first couple of weeks after surgery. I slept with a glass of water & some throat lozenges next to my bed.
Hope this helps! Good luck & best wishes for a speedy recovery!
