We live in a 2 story house. Our bedroom and ALL the bathrooms are upstairs. Is navigating the stairs going to be an issue postop?

Well I can only speak for me....I have 2 flights of stairs in my house. I had a TAH and did okay. I just took it slow and easy. I believe most docs want you to try and avoid them, but you can ask your doc if your not sure. For me I didn't really have a choice I either had to go up or go down to get to a bathroom or my bed. I have heard some ladies say that going backwards up the stairs helps. Best wishes to you....Lisa

I Had A Lavh With A&p Repairs On June 19 And I Have Been Navigating The Stairs Since The First Day Home From The Hospital. This Does Not Take The Place Of The Dr's Request F0r Post Op Activities , So Please Be Sure To Ask , But I Have Had A Wonderful Recovery This Far And Hope To Continue... Good Luck ... Michelle

They told me to limit my going up and down the stairs. I think I was limited to once or twice a day. You should ask them about that now. Sitting on each step and lifting up to go to the next one was one of the things I did too, but ask your dr. if you can do that. Maybe you could practice it now to see how it will feel.

Good luck!

I have two flights of stairs to reach our bedroom and the full bathrooms. I plan to slowly make it to my bedroom when I get home and not leave it for a couple of days. My DH has offered to bring home the winch, lines, and any other rigging necessary from the sailboat and just winch me up the two stories. I had to gently explain that this is probably not a good idea.

As an added note, DH has decided to prepare me for the surgery by taking me on a 5 mile hike in North Georgia to a cabin/inn. Sunday we hike back out. Lucky me, Aunt Flo has decided to join us....

Good luck with your surgery.

I have the same situation.

My sister who is a nurse and has had a hysterctomy said absolutely not. She said to go and up and stay for at least a week and maybe two.

I plan on not using the stairs for the first week and propably into the second - I'm not sure. My DH will bring food for me (which will be interesting since he doesn't cook).

I'm probably over-cautious, but I am the "Sugar Mama" in a a very specialized job and if anything happens to me - we're financially screwed - so I am going to be taking extreme care of myself.

I also have my bedroom and showers upstairs. I was thinking I could just go up or down, once a day after the first few days. My 15 year old daughter had ACL surgery last fall and she spent several days on the couch, and then couldn't take it and spent the nights upstairs. Do you think I will be able to do that? I am 48 and am having abdominal hyster and everything taken. Also, has anyone used the band for swelling belly on this site? What do you think? Does it help with support of those muscles?

i've used the band...and still do on days i'm sore or swollen. it helped so much right after surgery. i didn't wear it then for pain, as there was none, but i used it for supporting my abdomen/incision when i had to have a bm during the first couple of weeks. it's wonderful in my opinion...
