Which products did you use to help heal from surgery?

I am having a TAH with BSO on April 7th. I have seen the products on hyster sisters and was wondering what everyone has used after surgery. Do I also need BIG granny cotton panties? There are so many things to possibly buy. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Which products did you use to help heal from surgery?

GasX and Miralax will be your friends! I bought the regular abdominal binder from here and find it makes my belly feel secure and protected. I didn't need it until I started getting around more. I'm wearing my normal underwear and didn't need to buy any larger ones. Yoga style pants are very comfy. And I used a heating pad alot for my back.

Having meals prepared and frozen ahead of time was a huge help and I wished I had done more.

Most importantly, rest, rest, and rest some more while you are recuperating. No housework, no ramming around town. Rest so your body can heal correctly.

Best wishes for a successful surgery and easy recovery.

I'm also wearing my normal undies. I just wasn't wearing them the correct way for the first week =) I also bought stretchy pants for post op and since most of my pj's have a waist band or aren't visitor appropriate I also bought some nightshirts.

I've also found that I feel better with a bandaid over my incisions when I do get dressed. So in my case I bought a couple boxes of large latex free ones -)

Defnately granny panies! You will not want anything tight around the incision therefore the high waisted ones are the best! Also agree with others, sweatpants and yoga pants you will live in for atleast 2 weeks if not longer! Miralax and Gas X is a must! I didnt buy any of the ad. supports and I did just fine. I personally dont think I've would of wanted anything tight around my belly. Lots of water and fruit and vegetables and soup!

Good Luck on your upcoming surgery and you will soon be a pampered princess!!!!!

Re: Which products did you use to help heal from surgery?

I bought a couple of cute, comfy nightgowns which I wore for my first two weeks after surgery. I'm finally starting to wear yoga pants and t-shirts now. I didn't buy any larger panties and have been fortunate that I didn't really need them.

Aside from gas-x, I have used Colace quite a bit so I definitely recommend it. I also had some prune juice on hand and just stocked up the fridge with foods & juices that I like.

Best wishes on your surgery!

At the hospital my dr gave me vitamin e and c and some iron. I have kept taking the c and e at home and have healed very nicely.

Re: Which products did you use to help heal from surgery?

i would also recommend starting a cranberry supplement to help ward a way any bladder infections. this is advice i took that i actually got from this site. start them at least a week before surgery. i would also recommend starting an acidolphilus supplement ( the good bacteria in yogurt) before surgery. it helps ward away yeast infections, it also helps your intestines "right" themselves after surgery. they give you a lot of antibiotics at the hospital with surgery and the acidolphilus helps bring good bacteria back into your body. i continue to take these along with a good multivitamin and iron. i healed quickly, feel good , am not suffering from fatigue and did not have any infections. i feel rather blessed. good luck with your surgery.

Re: Which products did you use to help heal from surgery?

I didn't get granny panties - just use my normal bikini hipsters - my incision is really low.
I DO use that abdominal binder ( I had TAH/BSO) - it really helps for support! I also use my tray/bed table every day- it's handy to keep everything on it & protect my tummy/incision from pets jumping on it.
I haven't used my grabber at all.
I am using probiotic yogurt, cranberry juice, plum juice, gas -x and metamucial capsules.
I also use a u shaped neck pillow you can heat up in the microwave - very soothing & relaxing!
I just made sure I had enough "comfy" clothes - plain, loose cotton skirts & comfy tops.
I used a small "tummy pillow' while hospitalized, but haven't used it since.
I HAVE used a bolster pillow (those decorative long roll pillows) under my knees since right now I can still only sleep on my back.

Best of luck to you!
