Had hysterectomy this morning 7/26: Feeling like bladder is full?

Hello,
Im 33yrs old and just had my robot-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy this morning. It was a total hysterectomy and they removed my fallopian tubes but left my ovaries. I'm home now, but is it normal to feel like my bladder is super full and have to rush to the bathroom only come to find out there wasn't much to do. I am sore and in and out of sleep the anesthesia is wearing off. I am hoping this is a good recovery *fingers crossed* I've had two C-sections 2008 & 2012 and just in October 2020 had them tie my tubes. Thanks for your help!

It sounds to me like you're doing fine. There are lots of strange feelings in the digestion, bladder etc. area I found and it's hard to distinguish. Are you feeling the urge to pee at other times and doing a lot? Did you do a pee test in order to be released? I had to meet a quota of peeing and then they scanned the bladder to ensure it had emptied. I was sent home before meeting the quota and they said I'd have to make myself sit and pee if I wasn't feeling the urge through the night and to return in the morning if I wasn't peeing. Fortunately I did pee just fine once home.

Re: Had hysterectomy this morning 7/26: Feeling like bladder is full?

and welcome to the Other Side!

Sounds like bladder spasms, which we can feel from the catheterization and all the surgical trauma which happened nearby. For me, the spasms were sensations of frequency, difficulties starting and maintaining a stream, and not feeling emptied out - often going again in 10 minutes to finish the job. They can feel like a UTI, so take notes if you notice burning, pain, or cloudy urine. We actually have an article on Tips for Helping Your Bladder Along - I actually thought about #4!

Hi Marie,
The bladder can be quite cranky after surgery, considering it was front and center of all the action. Try to drink lots and lots of water/fluids to help flush it out and keep your urine diluted.

Please consider joining the other gals who had surgery this week in your Recovery Thread, it’s a great support during recovery.

Update: 7/30/21 thank you everyone for helping me. I am fine now I mean I do feel weird things here and there but reading other people's posts it seems the norm after this type of surgery.
