UFE scheduling mishap

Yesterday, October 9th, I went to the hospital to have my UFE procedure. I've been waiting months to have it. I had horrible anxiety about it but that's just me anytime I get a procedure done. After registering, they get me in a gown, put my iv port in my arm and I get taken back to a holding area to await surgery. My surgery was supposed to be at 7:30am. Around 8:00 my husband says he thinks something is wrong. I shrug it off and try to control my anxiety. At 8:30am three doctors come in and tell me that my IR is at another hospital. Scheduling was supposed to have called and canceled my surgery and rescheduled it but someone overlooked it. The hospital offered for another doctor to do the procedure but I said no way. Now I'm having second thoughts about the whole thing. My anxiety is even worse and now I have to relive that dreaded procedure day all over again. I do not regret telling them no about the other doctor doing it but now I'm afraid I won't come around and let my original IR do it. I truly feel kind of traumatized by this.

Re: UFE scheduling mishap

Oh hugs to you! I'm so sorry that happened.
But I'm a firm believer in things work out the way they are supposed to. My mom went into the hospital a couple of weeks ago for a stem cell transplant. Her doctor had to leave unexpectedly and her transplant was delayed by four days. The new doctor was amazing and even though it wasn't perfect at first, her recovery has been awesome.
And while UFE sounds scary its a walk in the park compared to major surgery.
I'm a year out from mine and would do it again in a heartbeat. It's been a life changing thing for me.

Re: UFE scheduling mishap

Thank you for your reply. I also believe that everything happens for a reason and perhaps I was not meant to have my UFE yesterday for some given reason. How was your recovery from your UFE? Did your bulk symptoms go away with time?

Re: UFE scheduling mishap

You are very welcome. I can only imagine how frustrated you must be.
As far as my recovery went it was pretty hard because I had a vaginal myomectomy less than 24 hours after my UFE. I was also very ill before both procedures so that made things much worse. But I still would make the same choice again.
My largest fibroid was removed and the other two were removed later. The last one has shrunk about 85 percent.
I don't have any symptoms left at all. My periods are very light and cause no issues.
I was very lucky because I was still able to have UFE when my largest fibroid degenerated. My hysterectomy was scheduled due to this but I asked my surgeon to remove the fibroid after UFE instead. My radiologist was in the OR with me the next day in case of any bleeding. Both my surgeon and IR worked together to give me amazing care.
And most IR's give great pain meds. Mine insisted on being in charge of keeping me "happy". I don't remember being in any pain or distress at all.
Hope this helps to put you at ease.

Re: UFE scheduling mishap

Yes, it does somewhat. One of the nurses told me yesterday that my particular IR is very generous about the pain meds and keeping her patients very very comfortable so I'm happy about that. I guess I don't know exactly what I'm so scared about. The thought of losing an ovary scares me which is possible if it's sharing any blood supply with my fibroid. I'm also very nervous about being sedated. I just fear that whole aspect all together. It's not general anesthesia however it's still a state of mind altering sedative. Thank you for sharing your experience with me. The bad part is that instead of recovering right now, like I should be, I'm back to the waiting game.
