Keep cervix too

They are for sure removing my uterus and my cervix. Not sure on the ovaries. Won't know if they are gone till I wake up. That makes me scared. The not knowing. I have endo and had dysplasia twice this year. That is why the cervix is going. Not sure how it will affect me, but comforting to know that overall it doesnt seem to affect anything.

Keep cervix too

I kept my cervix, and I'm very glad about it. With negative pap smears and negative HPV tests, the risk of cervical cancer is extremely low. I like my cervix--it's sexually responsive, it releases betaendorphins that make me feel good (like nearly every woman's cervix), it contains the vagus nerve that also creates pleasurable sensations too, and it does contribute to significant lubrication (although the rest of the vagina does too). If you need to have it removed because of dysplasia, HPV, high cancer risk, endo, or the type of surgery you've chosen, you'll probably be fine without it. But a healthy cervix does a lot of wonderful things, so keeping it is a wonderful option for those of us who can.

Keep cervix too

I am only 3 weeks out but I got rid of all of it. My doc said she always gets rid of the cervix unless the woman wants to keep it. She said she does not believe it really affects sex but I hope not. That was my main worry about it. Then she told me about the possiblity of mini periods and still getting paps and possibly having cervical cancer along the way. I just thought I don't want to go through this and then have more issues. I hope I made the right choice. I think that part of my body does play a part in my "O"...but I hope everything will still work out ok. Good luck with your decision!

Thanks to everyone who responded so quickly. This is a great place for support and info. I guess everyone is right about taking the cervix also. Doesn't hurt to ask though. I have endo so it may be no choice either way. I actually was more concerned about the sexual side than any other. (I know that sounds awful) After 10 years of marriage sex is wonderful and never gets boring. My dr. did not say anything would be majorly different and my attitude going in also helps. After several years of pain and suffering I never thought it could be so exciting to have body parts removed. Thanks again to all. Any more info would also be great.

Keep cervix too

Hi i was told by my specialist that the cervix does not help to support the vagina, the vagina has its own support system and that the vagina creates its own lubrication. As for sex she also said that there will not be any change with the BIG 'O' and sex can sometimes be better without the cervix, especially if it already causes pain before the op! As for having a TVH,yes the cervix will have to be removed if having a TVH.....hope this helps. At the end of the day its your decission, im having a TVH on the 13th may and i cant wait to start the first day of my brand new period and pain free life!!! All the best with what you decide Tracey x x

Keep cervix too

Just an FYI for all. My gyn told me to still have a "pap" smear or vaginal smear yearly even though I no longer have a cervix because there is still the remote chance of vaginal cancer. As we have all learned through our various experiences, there are several different thoughts on this subject, to have or not have a "pap" smear. For me, I will continue to get checked yearly even though it is not the most dignified test, but I figure better safe than sorry. Just my

I never thought about the pap. It never crossed my mind, but I guess you're probably right. As far as dignity goes aren't we all past that point now. I know for me after 4 kids, tubal, tubal reversal and tubal again plus ablation and now emergancy room visits for unstopable bleeding, DIGNITY is past gone. I don't know when it happened but it's gone. I guess I do need to ask my dr. about the pap on Wednesday at my pre-op.
