Surgery upcoming and so frightened

Hello Sisters. I am scheduled for my surgery on June 19 and also am so uncharacteristically frightened that I am ready to call the whole thing off. I went for a Barium Enema and IVP last Friday, "routine tests" according to my doc. While neither was painful, the BE was quite unpleasant. Can't imagine what the post surgery pain might be like. I haven't ever had any surgery except a D & C. I don't want to be out of work, but know a couple of weeks will be necessary. I have a desk job, so hopefully I will be okay to drive after a short time at home. All words of comfort are welcome as I really am quite nervous.

cheering you on

Just keep in mind why you are doing this in the first place. Ask for the happy juice to take the edge off before the surgery. No need to be up to high do!! The main thing is take it easy afterwards and use the tools (meds). We all know how you feel, but the end result is worth it. Chin up and we will all have you in our thought on the day.

My heart goes out to all of you.......Please try to relax take deep breaths..
the cathedar is no big deal .. Go on your trips enjoy life and get ready to pamper yourselves... Try to focus on after.... Rest and relax Don't be afraid to ask for help, I know sometimes we can be stubborn..But I used my 6 weeks excuse to its fullest extent lol well as much as i could get away with after 3 weeks they figured I could get my own bowl of ice cream.

Best wishes to all ... Happy healing

I had my TVH 5 weeks ago. My doctor gave me valium to take on my way to the hospital. It worked great! Very relaxing.

Good luck with your surgery. I am so glad I had it done!

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I agree with asking your dr for something to calm you down. You could also ask for something to help you sleep the night before. I was terrified, and as I read these boards it's good to know that we aren't alone in feeling that! It's the fear of the unknown. Well, everything went better than I ever anticipated. I feel better at six weeks than I ever expected to, and it will probably be the same for you.

Surgery upcoming and so frightened

I know a lot of women have expressed excitement about their surgery, but even then, we all had things we were worried about and things that caused concern for us. I was ok most of the time, and then I'd read story after story of women who had problems and it would freak me out a bit. The thing is, almost all of the problems were easily remedied by time and patience or a quick trip back to a doctor for a quick assessment and maybe some medication. Even with some of the problems I've personally had since my surgery, I'm really glad I've gone through it and I realize I'm going to have setbacks from time to time.

Each person deals with pain/discomfort differently. The big thing is to keep moving and add a little more movement each time--but remember to do so gently. You will not be pain-free, but neither should you feel completely horrible. Look through the post-op discussions even though you can't post on them, and you'll see that the majority of problems we have after hystos is overdoing it and then feeling like crap afterward. Understand that not everyone had problems, but most women have some setbacks, weird stuff that happens during healing, and lots of questions.
You have lots of experiences available to you in these webpages, and nice drugs available from your doctor, so take full advantage of them and stay strong! You're going to be ok!
