Recovery Time

Can anyone tell me how long I can expect to be off work? I don't have a lot of information yet as I went in for an Ablation yesterday and was told they couldn't do it and I need a hysterectomy (I have an enlarged uterus). I was still under anesthesia when I left so I didn't get to talk to the Dr. Was supposed to get blood work today but so they can check other things before they can schedule surgery. Anyway - I have no idea how long I will be off work and I am single with just my income! Yikes!

Recovery time is generally 6 to 8 weeks (before you get the all clear). That however doesn't mean you will be fully healed. As far as work goes, it depends on how you are healing. For the most part being out of work can normally range from 2-4 weeks depending on what type of work you do as you will have restrictions on lifting, pushing, pulling and bending. I am sure when you talk to your Dr. again he will provide you with all that information. I wish you the best.

Recovery time can vary from woman to woman and is dependent on many variables, including your surgery type, complications during surgery (if any), job type (are you on your feet alot?), and more.

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH) with both tubes and ovaries removed (BSO). I have a desk job. I was back at work after three weeks, BUT could only work part time and it was very difficult. It took another four weeks before I could return to work full time.

And, you will have driving restrictions, lifting restrictions (probably 10 lbs for six weeks) , activity restrictions and more. You will need some help at home, shopping, etc. for a few weeks.
