Megastrol Acetate

HI All,
Looking for information on side effects of megestrol Acetate. I am taking 40 mg 2x daily and have been taking it for 8 days now, I am noticing that when I am walking and sometimes just sitting I will feel what I think my br more spotting but that doesn't seem to be the case. I am wondering if this medicine could be putting pressure where I void...it almost seems like this is where the discharge is coming from....I am trying desperately to stay on this medication as I'm hoping it will get rid of the cancer cells that two biopsies have now indicated that I have adenocarcinoma grade 1 the problem is I am a terrible risk for surgery and I'm very much hoping this will get rid of the hyperplasia. The problem is I have had conflicting opinions on the first biopsy and as yet have not had a second reading on the second biopsy. If anyone has any experience with Megestrol Acetate please let me know. I had the first biopsy Jan 13 and this has been going on since.

because I did not feel well on norethindrone (Aygestin, I think - someone please correct me if that's not the right brand name). The norethindrone gave me headaches and made me (even more) depressed.

However, on both the megestrol (Megace) and norethindrone, I'm not only much heavier - a factor which I'm also told may be due to my pain meds - but retaining more fluid than during even my worst PMS episodes. Btw, Megace is used not only in gynecology but in situations where cancer patients have lost their appetites; I know this unfortunately b/c my late mom took it for that reason. Thus far, and at the dose I'm on, I don't notice much appetite change. The extra lbs. remain, though, and are too stubborn to come off no matter what I eat or don't eat.

Maybe the pressure on your bladder could be due to swelling of your abdominal area. It's worth asking your dr. about, as continuous progestins do imitate the effects of a constant state of PMS.

The side effects of Megace really vary from person to person. I took 160mgs/day of Megace for 3 months and after that, 320 mgs/day for 3 months. I didnt notice any side effects for sure other than my cycle stopping. I lost a few pounds while taking it, but at the same time, I had even other crises than my own illness at the time (family illness). It's possible that I had increased hunger, but I can't say for sure.

I have been taking 80 mg. every 10 -12 hours. I have many fibroids. It stops the bleeding completely. I have been near menopause and I should be in Menopause in about a year. I don't know how to tell that is the case when I am not bleeding much at all. Ideas?

Also for other women thinking of using megastrol, I am as big as a house. I went from a very petite figure to gaing 100 pounds in a year and 4 months.
