First appointment with hospital

Hi all

Well I am new to this site but what I have seen so far is awesome. I am 33 years old and sometime in the (hopefully) near future I should be having a TAH because of uterine prolapse and annoying, prolonged and excessive bleeding as well as a viscious family history in regards to any kind of female cancer. I don't know when my surgery will be yet because even though my GP and myself have been fighting a losing battle with the prolapse for about 6 years now the only hospital in Perth (Western Australia) that will touch me (because of a bleeding disorder) has only just given me an appointment to go to their ob/gyn clinic. So on the 14th of December I will turn up and hopefully they will agree with my doctor and I that everything except the ovaries need to go and as soon as possible.
I am really worried that the hospital is going to stuff around because of my bleeding disorder. My blood doesn't clot quickly enough and therefore hysterectomy is one of the most dangerous things for me to be doing.
I have had pain for so long now that I just want the operation over and done with so I can get on with my life. I think my DH would be happy too...after the recouperation period that is.... as he has been getting a bit of a raw deal in regards to the nookie side of things (and I miss pain free nookie too).
I am just finding the waiting side of things really hard. I have seen lots of posts saying it gets easier and I am hoping that once I have a surgery date that will sort of put me a bit more at ease because I will have something to focus on. The only other thing I am worried about is bleeding. I have a disorder called Dysfibrinogenemia and my blood doesn't clot fast enough to stop me bleeding. My haematolgist said that the 2 most dangerous things for me would be a car accident or abdominal surgery...so, understandably, I am feeling a little tense about this surgery even though I know I have to have it done. I have managed to put it off for nearly 6 years so I need to get on with it. Also has anyone reading this post got Ankylosing Spondylitis (a form of arthritis) and had a hysterectomy as that side of things I have absolutely no idea about. Will I flare up after surgery? or will they have probs putting the tube down my throat as I have 2 fused vertebrae at the top of my neck...oh god it just gets worse.
Sorry if I seem to go on and on but I haven't been able to get many answers but I am finding this site very helpful with more REAL people stuff as well as medical answers. Well done on a great forum.

Thanks ladies

Hi Flitty &

The spondylitis should not cause any problems with being tubed but you could stiffen up a bit with too much immobillity. I only know about this condition through a close friend of mine who did have surgery & found the bed rest made his back a little worse than normal.
I am sure there a a couple of other ladies on this site with your spondylitis condition who could tell you how they fared.

When (not if, must be possitive here ) you get your date, yes it is a releaf to know that you will soon be free, but as the date gets closer, unless you are related to a cuecumber (as cool as) you will end up a total bag of nerves. The waiting for the day to arrive is the hardest part. I have been waiting since March & now my last week has arrived it seems to be as long as all the rest of the other time put together

So good luck on the 14th & do let us know how you got on.
