Second opinion?
(color=Sienna)xxx(/COLOR)
Hey there everyone.. I went to see my Obgyn to get test results and to pick a date for the Hysto. I was not expecting this news..
I was told that because i was only 28years old that the law requires me to have a second opinion. I was angry and started to go off about my pain and how this is my body and I want a hysto then no one should tell me I need to get a second opinion. He said that my only option at this point is a hysto leaving my ovaries but that the state would audit him if he did not send me for another opinion.. ladies where I live, its so hard to get into any place so I can only imagine this taking another month to get that second opinion.. another month of severe prolapsed organs.. Not to mention I had yet another abnormal pap. I am having a cone biopsy on the 5th of March. He did say that depending on those results, I may not need that second opinion. Have any of you had to get a second opinion before scheduling your Hysto??
Thanks for any advice!

Second opinion?
Wow, I've never heard of this being a law. I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing. Many people don't question doctors recommendations when we should. You are mighty young to be making such a permanent decision. I realize this may be the best option for you, but no harm can come from getting a second opinion. I know when I had mine I had 3 opionions. It did make my wait longer but I ended up using the 3rd doctor because he does TLH. Many of us on this board has sought a 2nd and 3rd opinions. There are many procedure a doctor can use to perform a hysterectomy. Use this time to educate yourself and discuss what procedures the doctors are comfortable with. I you are a candidate for any type of lap hyst I would go with that option. I did and my pain has been minimal.
Also the 3rd doc had a 3 month waiting list to see patients. My gyn was able to get me in the next day. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Second opinion?
I had to have a 2nd opinion, but that was because it was required by my insurance company.

Second opinion?
I'm sorry that you're so upset, but I think that a second opinion ( sometimes even more ) is a good idea. Your health and well being are worth it.
Talk with your dr about pain management for the wait ( I hope that it's short ).
My insurance required a second opinion and tests before approval - and I was a lot older than you.
Best wishes.

Second opinion?
I agree with the other ladies who look at second opinions as ways to gather more information and think about the differences in procedures available to you. A second opinion is a good thing and I think it speaks well of a doctor who makes sure that you can get one. You are young and I am also sure that it is in the back of his mind that you could later regret the surgery and he wants to know that you are prepared. Probably many of us on this site know the kind of physical pain that you are going through but it seems to me that a month's wait which will bring more peace of mind and clarity of thought is worth it.

Yuor so right..
I called the obgyn and he said that it had everything to do with my insurance.. that was the "law" according to the insurance i am using.. I get it now.. even though its still bothersome. I did call to get that second opinion. I decided to call ahead and get that appointment.. once I explained the situation that got me in for March 16th!! They told me how sorry they were that I was going through this and they even called my obgyn to get the dirt on things.. it was so nice to hear that its not all in my head!! I am upset that I will need to wait another month but I was told that April was the month for my Hysto.. I look forward to the surgery and look forward to AFTER the healing! Thanks ladies.
