Worried! Don't Know What To Expect!
Here is my story. I have been fighting Endometriosis for several years. I have already had a Laproscopy and I have fought infertility. I was finally blessed with twins and now I am fighting my Endometriosis again. My doctor has set my surger up for 4/18/07. I know I need to have it done, but that is all I know. What should I expect prior to my surgery? What should I expect after my surgery? What can I not do with my children after surgery and for how long? I feel so stupid for not asking my doctor when she told me, but I started thinking about child care, notifiying my company of my time off and if I could go back to work in a couple of weeks. Things like that. And now I sit here worring about the things I do not know. Please someone help me with my answers. Thank you.

Worried! Don't Know What To Expect!
There are check points listed here for questions to ask your Dr. at your pre-op appointment.
Please, don't feel stupid! It is completely normal not to ask questions when you are given this news. I thank God daily I found this site to help me through.
It depends on the type of hysterectomy you are having and how you heal, as far as when you can go back to work. You will need help with the children for awhile. Also someone to help with cleaning etc. You will need to take care of YOU. Lots of rest..you only have one chance to heal right.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Hugs,
June

Worried! Don't Know What To Expect!
Well, I don't know the age of your twins, the type of in home care you would have, the type of surgery you are having, or your job but I can tell you my story.
I had TAH (total abdominal hysterectomy) on 2/8. I have a 10 month old dd that is roughly 20 pounds. I wasn't able to lift her until 6 weeks post op and I had to ease back into it. I work on a computer and was lucky enough to be able to link in from home so I started back from home at week three but didn't drive until week 6.
My dh had to do all the cleaning, cooking, driving, and child care. I had to sit in a recliner, take short walks around the house, keep on my pain meds, and answer calls. I had a surgery in November and ended up with the hyst because I overdid it at 4 weeks post op causing my uterine incision to rupture and re heal adhering to itself. Trust me you do not want to hurt yourself, it makes the surgery a waste of time. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me.

Worried! Don't Know What To Expect!
I am having my hyst April 30 due to a loooong history (many laps surgeries) of endo, adenomyosis and fibroids. While a hyst will cure adeno it WILL NOT cure endo.
There is no cure for endo, but that being said you may find relief from a hyst (esp if your surgeon excises any endo while he's in there) or you may not. You need to keep this in mind.
A hyst has always been my last resort, well now I am there and I can't wait! I know I have tried everything, I've exhausted all my options, so I am 100% sure of my decision to have my hyst. I've also researched until I am blue in the face and have armed myself with information and knowledge. Being just a 'bit' of a control freak, this has given me a sense of control over my surgery.
I suggest you do all the research you can so you are comfortable with your decision.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Worried! Don't Know What To Expect!
My dp had a hyst with removal of ovaries and EVERYTHING including all endo tissue and was told she couldn't do HRT because the endo tissue feeds off hormones. So with removal of all it was felt regrowth would be minimal. I just had a TAH in February and am back at work full time. I started working from home full time (I have a desk job) at day 10 and had pretty much stopped prescrip pain meds by that time except at night. Heavy lifting is STILL kept to a minimum but I can pick up 10+ pounds or so and am back to doing some light housecleaning, laundry, driving, cooking, etc. I can also pick up my friend's two year old to sit on my lap with no problem, but carrying her around might be an issue. Everyone's different as to what to expect afterwards... and even at the castle. Don't feel stupid for not having asked questions... give your doc a call and see if you can set up another appointment for a pre-op discussion. You usually get a pre-op appointment shortly before the big day anyway, but doctors usually don't mind answering questions.... make a list and get on the phone! You'll feel much better when you understand things in the way that makes sense to you!

Worried! Don't Know What To Expect!
I just wanted to tell all of you Thank You! I have contacted my doctor and she is going to see me tomorrow so I can talk with her about my concerns. She told me this happens a lot, so that makes me feel better about not asking questions earlier. Anyway, I look forward to the support of everyone and I know I haven't had my surgery yet, but I am still a good listener if anyone needs anything. Thanks again!

Good for you. There's actually a list of questions right here on the site that you can print out and take with you. Add your own questions to it! And don't worry if you think of MORE questions before the big day. The more information you have the more comfortable you'll be about everything.
