Really nervous - hyster for constant pain, heavy periods

So this is my first post on here, I've been reading other post for about a month now and finally decided to join today. Guess I'll just give a little insight to my problems I'm having and go from there...

First, I am 33 and am scheduled for my TVH in 8 weeks. My problems really first started almost 6 years ago after I had my son. I have 2 children, 14 and almost 6, both delivered by c-section with a tubal being performed right after delivery. After my son I started having extremely heavy periods which I dealt with for 3 years, finally going to my OB about the problem, we discussed my options and decided cyroablation was right for me, since at the time I had no other issues. The procedure went great, but my periods never stopped, they only went back to normal before having my son, still heavy but no clotting.

Well now 2 years later, I am in constant pain and discomfort. Periods are steadily getting heavier and irregular. A week early one month and 2 weeks late the next. Feels like something is going to "fall" out of me and have a hard time using tampons anymore, I feel like I always have to pee and now for the last month I have had constant constipation, maybe going once a week at the most, it looks like I'm 5 months pregant due to all the bloating. Sex is extremely painful and now yesterday, I have this shooting pain from left butt cheek down the back of my thigh. Feels like what other people have described as sciatic nerve pressure....

I finally went to my OB 4 weeks ago and was told my cervix has tilted back and both my uterus and bladder have prolapsed and that my best option now would be a TVH, I do have the option of keeping my ovaries though, which I am strongly leaning towards. I should also mention that during my last exam, my doc said I had some inflammation and then the pap came back abnormal. They said there was no cause for alarm and they would check it again when I go in for my post op. I guess my question is has anyone else had the same issues and is it really possible to feel normal again after surgery?...

Re: Really nervous about what to expect....

Hi dmhill33 to HysterSisters!

I am sorry you have to have a hysterectomy, but glad you decided to join. There is a lot of support at this site, as well as some good information. I found much healing here.

There are many women out there who have had surgery for the same issues as you are experiencing. From the posts I have read they are happy they had the surgery. Life is too short to be miserable.

I am going to tweak your title just a bit so that they can find your post more easily and respond.

If you have not done so already. You also might want to explore around the site a bit. To get you going, you may want to read the pre-op section.

Re: Really nervous - hyster for constant pain, heavy periods

Hi dmhill33,

We are glad you posted. Like you are dealing with, we all had or have issues with our uteruses, ovaries, etc. A hysterectomy is a major, life changing event. It can be negative or a positive depending on how the individual sees it. I hope you look at it as a positive event. Sure, there are going to be times when you are nervous, jittery, anxious, even sad and maybe mourning the loss of your reproductive abilities. We are all here to help you, even if it is just to listen and empathize as we have all been there. No matter which surgery you have, the recovery is going to be slow and incremental, especially your first two weeks. Some have a smoother time than others. No one has it easy. I can say that I am happy I did this. I am 3 weeks post op today and I can feel how much better I am as opposed to before. I hope that helps you. Read the boards and prepare. Ask questions. This is uniquely your journey, but you are not alone.

Really nervous - hyster for constant pain, heavy periods

I'm sorry to hear you are in so much discomfort. Good news is it will come to an end soon! I no the exspressen well that you fell like everything will fall out. Like if you relieve the muscle and by the way when we do it hurts like hell but you also feel like your insides are going to fall out. I had a partial historectomy in August with the uterus and cervics out. Then five days ago I had to have my overys out because the produced another bleeding cyst and my right one twisted. I begged my doctor back in aug. to take the overys due to I had had years of problems with them but because I'm only 28 he refused. Nine months later he decided it was the best thing! My point is you have to make the decision for your self I wish I had been a little more pushy. And RIGHT after surgery I hurt from the surgery but the pressure was gone! Thank god it was getting to the point where I could barely stand up straight and it KILLED to use the bathroom I never felt so lucky to have diarea! Lol. But really I hope all goes well and I pray your pain be relieved soon!
