How Big Is A Uterus Anyway???

So here is a rather silly question for everyone..........How big is a normal size uterus? I am having a Vaginal Hyst. to remove my uterus and was kind of wondering how big it is? I know mine is enlarged but.......kind of courious as to what it is like when they remove it vaginally, will I have alot of pain down there after and will they have to cut me down there to get it out?
Any assistance is so greatly appreciated!!!!

A normal uterus is about the size of a pear, or your fist. It weighs about 50-80 grams in the "normal" range, depending on what part of the month you're in and whether or not you've ever been pregnant.

I'll let someone that has links handy to anatomical drawings answer about how it comes out, and where you're cut for a vaginal surgery, etc. In the meantime, you can try looking at female reproductive parts on www.webmd.com

In other words, it's about the size (and shape) of a med. pear.

Hope this helps. This info. should give you a rough idea of the size of yours when your Dr. tells you the exact size of your enlarged uterus.
