I am scheduled for a TVH on 12/8/04 and am worried about travelling for the holidays. We are scheduled right now to drive for appr. 22 hours to my husband's relative's home on 12/18/04. I REALLY need to take this trip, but don't know if I'll be able to make it. We plan on making the trip in 2-3 days and the return trip in 2 days. My only other option would be to stay home alone for several days and fly out later, but I am worried about travelling alone and embolisms. Any suggestions?
P.S. No, I haven't had an opportunity to discuss this with my Dr. yet. Also, I really don't want to hear that I shouldn't go, but want an honest opinion. Thanks

Definitely discuss this with your doctor. I'd be very surprised if he ok's a 22 hour drive 10 days post op. At 10 days, most of us are having trouble with a trip to the grocery store....and that's if we have no complications.
If you can put off either your trip or your surgery, that might be something to consider.
Good luck.

Can you recline your seat back? Far if necessary? My honest opinion is you could do it if you could recline that seat back. The hardest thing on your belly is going to be staying in an upright, seated position. If you can recline in a chair at home, you can recline in your car. Yes, you're going to feel bumps in the road. Just keep that pillow between you and the seatbelt.
Good luck -
