I have a question regarding drinking pepsi or any other kind of soda after surgery.
I'm ashamed to admit this but I am a bit of a pepsi freak. Some people drink coffee or tea to get caffeine. I drink pepsi!

I know it is bad but it is pretty much my only no no.

Can I drink soda after surgery or will that cause more problems?

Thanks for you opinions!

Susan

I think the main concern is the carbonation making gas problems worse.

I am an addict also (diet Pepsi), and I couldn't tell that it made the gas any worse (but I only had very minimal gas problems anyway).

Hi Susan,

I drank diet coke in pre and post-op. My one vice!!!

I found I did not have a problem with gas in post-op with carbonated drinks. To help, I drank lots of water and ate a balanced diet that included fruits and vegetables to help my digestive tract.

Best wishes,

Mary

Hi Susan

I am a diet pepsi addict I do not drink coffee or tea.
My surgery was this past Thursday and DH brought me diet pepsi to keep at the hospital. No one said anything about it. I did drink some diet ginger ale right after surgery but that was because I was a little nauseous. After that it was bring on the pepsi
I have had minimal amounts of gas pain and it is nothing I cant deal with.

Hi!

I have been having what feels like cramps and gas in my intestines that I never, ever had before my surgery.

Can the carbornated drinks cause a bad gas problem as far post-op as 8 weeks? I also noticed my bowel movements are different in appearance each time I have one.

I'll be eight weeks on Tuesday. I'm going to my doc for my 6 week check-up tomorrow. I plan to ask her about it. She cancelled my original 6 week check, so it's a little late.

I can't understand a new pain like this at this point in healing. I would have thought it would have happened in the beginning.

The bladder problems I'm having have been since the beginning. I'm going to ask her about that as well, since it has not improved and I tested neg for a bladder or UTI infection.

God Bless

I love Diet Coke. I used to drink it all the time. I would hate to even think about how much I drank a day.

I drank it after surgery and really had no major problems from it immediately. But as soon I began noticing I would have more difficulties with hot flashes when I drank Coke. I've weened myself off it and the hot flashes are much better.

Pop gives you gas and that hurts so much more than before. I'm trying to stop drinking pop. I used to drink 3 liters a day on the average. Now I drink one can. It tastes good but it isn't worth the pain. And all of that caffeine and sodium isn't good either.

I'm addicted to two carbonated beverages: diet Pepsi and sparkling water. One day after my surgery, when I was getting sick of drinking tea and "flat" water, my DH brought me a bottle of Perrier. I was in Heaven! And you know what? I was fine.

It's been almost 3 weeks since then, I keep drinking Perrier and diet Pepsi and I do not find much difference in terms of how I feel. I find I get much more gas pain from certain types of food that I ingest.

I guess this is one of those body responses that vary from individual to individual.
