Embarrasing question re. pre-op laxative use

Hi Ladies- I have read that a lot of you have had instructions from your doctor to use a prescription laxative the day before surgery. My doctor didn't mention this, and my surgery is in 48 hours. I was instructed not to eat after midnight, but will that be enough? I'm having an LAVH. Thanks for your input.

Embarrasing question re. pre-op laxative use

Hi Millie!

All DR's have different procedures and preferences. Not all require bowel prep. It is more likely if your bowels are going to have to be handled a lot, if there is endo or adhesions for example. Don't assume someone forgot to tell you something. If you are really concerned about it call the office tomorrow morning and ask.

It is extremely important that you follow the instructions you were given. Don't do any type of bowel prep if you were not specifically told to.

This is very important! Bowel prep dehydrates you, and it is possible to go into shock during or after surgery from dehydration.

Pre-Op Prep

Hi Millie:

I had do take the laxatives the night before my surgery and an enema (yuck) about 2 hours before I went to the castle. That was my doctors (gyn and uro) instructions.

By the way I had a LAVH/BSO and Bladder Sling on 11/4/02!! I am doing great and will be thinking about you on Tuesday.

I hope you have an uneventful surgery!!!

LaDonna

Embarrasing question re. pre-op laxative use

I had laparoscopic surgery and I was told to eat a light dinner the night before and nothing after midnight. no other bowel prep.

I decided to eat light lunch and dinner. but that was just my own decision.
