Upcoming hysterectomy: Question about bleeding after surgery ... how much & how long??

So I'm preparing for my surgery I was going to buy beautiful comfy new sheets for my recovery area bed.
Then I saw "bed pads" being sold in the recovery store & it occurred to me that maybe I shouldn't buy the fancy ones just yet

I wasn't expecting it to be too much "mess" while in recovery, but figured I'd ask you girls.

If it matters, when they did my endometrial lining biopsy my body freaked out apparently and bled heavy for the next day's just from that .... sooo, I don't know what to expect.

I only had light spotting for two days after surgery. Didn't need more than a liner. Everyone is different though. But, you shouldn't lose much blood though. Cause if you need to. Change a pad more frequent than an hour, something is wrong

Ok, I lined my bed with a shower curtain. It was a good idea, cause I vomited a lot after surgery.
The bleeding is not even bad. I am over three weeks into recovery and I have a tiny bit of pink watery discharge. And I think maybe a dime size bit of discharge has gotten on the sheets here and there. But not been a big deal.
I would stick with old sheets for a bit.

I was told to expect, and did have, discharge for 6 weeks after surgery (ugh!). The hospital provided normal pads (I was in the hospital for 3 1/2 days). The first few days were like heavy spotting. After that I had clear and yellow-waxy discharge. I used those ultra-thin maxis and changed twice a day.

Everyone is different, though. So your experience may not be like mine. If you want to be safe, you may want to wait for your special sheets.

I vote for getting the lovely sheets... just don't put them on quite yet! (And when you do, get help, as tucking under the mattress might be a little strenuous post-op.) I was another Sister who had discharge needing mini pads only, no bleeding. Still, knowing the kind of bleeding I'd had in the past, I slept with a towel folded up under my hips. Just. In. Case. Lisathefitnessg is spot on that heavy bleeding indicates a serious issue and needs to be addressed right away.

Where you had the biopsy is going to be removed. Without a uterus, you will not have any uterine bleeding after a hysterectomy. It's bizarre to envision, but true!
