Cone gone bad................

Hi Ladies,

I had a cone biopsy almost two years ago. In approximately the last year, I have been experiencing extreme pain and pressure. The bleeding can come on extremely heavy and will gush, then stop and sometimes be gone for 4 or 5 days. During my periods I have extreme pressure in my cervix, it feels as though someone has a knife there and is twisting, sitting down and inserting a tampon are almost impossible. The pain can also be as severe as labor pains, and I find the only thing that helps is Tylenol 3, and 800 mg ibuprofen. Even then, I am not very good for much of anything.

I recently went to my OB/Gyn for a pap and she told me that there was so much scar tissue there that she could not even see my cervix. She sent me for an U/S and was told I had about 2 cm of cervix left there, and she wanted to do a D&C, and remove the scar tissue, but she can not guarantee that it will not return. If it does return the only way to treat it then would be a hysterectomy and removal of the cervix.

Has anyone out there ever heard of such a thing, or has any experience or advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Cone gone bad................

Cervical stenosis isn't uncommon after a cone or LEEP; it's just some of us scar more than others. You may get relief from just dilating the cervix under anesthesia, although it's hard to know what you'd have to do to keep scar tissue at bay this time around.

Part of your bleeding and contractions could also be due to adenomyosis, a condition where the endometrial lining of the uterus actually infiltrates the muscle wall, causing all kinds of problems (the clotting and contractions are pretty characteristic, actually). Adeno is pretty hard to diagnose; only MRI seems to be even somewhat sensitive. If you have adeno, you might have to go on to a hyst; however, if it's cervical stenosis that's at the root of your problem, you could look into a "trachelectomy" (if you do a search around here, there are a few members who've undergone that procedure and could tell you more; particularly I'm thinking of a member named "Chicklet" who had one done for cancer). That's where they only remove the cervix, which might be the answer for you, depending upon your age, reproductive history, etc.

Hope you get some relief with this D & C -- and I hope they're able to get a good cervical biopsy this time so you'll know. Let us know how it goes, OK?

Cone gone bad................

Hi Sunflower,

I did a search on "trachelectomy" and found quite a few threads where this procedure is mentioned. I'm providing a link to one thread where Chicklet and SallyAnn share some information on their experiences with cervical stenosis and trachelectomy. Hope this is helpful - and will give you a couple other gals you might contact with any additional questions, etc.

Please let us know how you are doing and what you decide about treatment.
