Re: If you had a choice between robotic or regular surgery
I am with you.
I had a daVinci and I am so sorry.
I have had severe nerve problems, and now I will need spine surgery in my neck.
I have bladder and bowel difficulties.
I think that the jury is still out for this surgery and machine.
It is really expensive so the doctors are encouraged to use it.
It may not be the best procedure for all surgeries. A conventional, more open approach may be a better option.
I also question their training.
How many hours of training do they have, and who is training them?
Is it the medical school with extensive classes, or do the residents and fellowes just "dive in???" and start on us patients with other doctors?
Who taught the professors? the da Vinci sales reps?
I just think that everyone is different.
I would love to see a study with all of us compiling the good and the bad.
You won't see that, because too much is invested with these machines at each hospital.

Re: If you had a choice between robotic or regular surgery
This is such an interesting subject! There's no right / wrong answer as we're all different.
I was supposed to have a DVH. My doctor is an expert in women's pelvic health with a lot of DVH experience. I was wheeled into the room, saw the machine, etc. Woke up with a TAH.
I had my myomectomy back in the pre-DVH days so I had a vertical scar already. When the doctors went in, I had unusual adhesions which glued my intestines to the abdomen wall, particularly bad around the navel. As a result, they didn't have a good way to get in there with the DVH equipment. Plus it made it look as though I might have had a hernia because my organs were out of place so they ended up calling in a general surgeon.
I guess the general surgeon was a little freer with the scalpel than my doctors intended. But they opened up the old TAH scar and cleaned everything up. I have one new tiny DVH scar, but otherwise, I had the vertical scar already so I'm no worse off.
I had a really easy recovery. I was cleared at 4 weeks. Never had bleeding or discharge or issues. I was active day 5 on. I actually feel much better today than I did pre surgery.
Bottom line, we need to do research, make the choice that's right for us and ensure we are working with a physician / physicians that we trust. There are pros and cons to both types. Women can have easy recoveries both ways.

Re: If you had a choice between robotic or regular surgery
Please also keep in mind TAH vs davinci aren't the only choices, there are still TVH or LAVH. I'd take my TVH any day over the other choices. But then, no one method is right for everyone. But more and more, people are seeing davinci as THE option vs TAH, and that's just not the case.

I agree.
I "bought" into it, but I had a lot of problems after the surgery.
I did not have a good outcome, to say the least.

Re: If you had a choice between robotic or regular surgery
I had daVinci, and in my experience, it was the right choice. I have three tiny little scars on my abdomen, but my healing time was quick, and mini discomfort after.

Re: If you had a choice between robotic or regular surgery
yes, that is correct ... the Nurse was very frazzled, I heard it was her first day back to work, this is a older nurse,
'should not matter"I said, don't you want to take this out'?
mind you I'm dooped up on perecet, and saw it there, in my hand, as i was getting into the car no joke"
"she had no gloves, and "no bandages. I just wanted it out...
I knew I was in for it, by that, pain begain, I also got very sick, with those meds, and started seeing things.
my story is long, I even passed a closing internal stitch, on day 5,bleed more then should have from that... Dr. excuse was you know the stitiching has gap's in it?
the vaginal cuff? this is not a place you want gaps"
I sow a button better then that, or a hemline, What is medical people doing ? short cut's, at the patients exspence...

Re: If you had a choice between robotic or regular surgery
I'm so glad you posted this. I have no alternative but to have a TAH due to the very large fibroid I have. (at least 13 cm) I felt better after reading your post. Thank you!
