What is a Tummy Binder?

I was looking at the pre-op checklist and question 10 is Will the doctor use a tummy binder on me? Will I need one?

What is it? My pre-op visit it tomorrow.

Some drs give princesses an elastic band with velcro about 12 inches wide that goes around your tummy, to support your tummy and protect your insision. Not all drs do this. You can buy them at some drug stores or ask your dr ahead of time if you can have one. Good Luck to you! s

I woke up in the hospital with one on. I wore it night and day for about three weeks, I just felt unsupported without it.

Charmedone is correct, some docs use them, others may not. Ask yours what his/her ideas are about them.

I wonder if its necessary with LAVH? I am a little concerned about how affected my abdominal muscles will be.

Sounds like it would make moving more comfortable.
