Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 29-Jul 05,2020

If your hysterectomy was between Jun 29-Jul 05,2020 this is the place to post your progress during your hysterectomy recovery.

If you have a question about your hysterectomy recovery, please start a new thread to receive answers and support for your concerns instead of including the question in your update! There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.

Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.

We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!

How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:

  • 1. This thread is for the purpose of sharing updates on your recovery as you heal from your hysterectomy.

  • 2. Generally, ONE or TWO posts on this thread per member/per day is adequate to share your daily progress and to share encouragement with your surgery week Sisters.

  • 3. Remember to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board to ask your questions.

  • 4. The Progress Report threads now begin in our special forum for all Hysterectomy Recovery Reports and will remain there for you to always find your discussion.
  • 5. Remember all the love and support you got here as a pre-op member? Now it's YOUR turn to give back to the women in the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support forum. Extend your hand and your hugs in replies to our pre-op ladies in waiting. This will complete our circle of women helping women!
  • 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 29-Jul 05,2020

To the Post Op Forum!

The waiting is finally over and you've arrived safely on the Other Side!

This thread is your place to share your updates, find answers to your questions, and give/get hugs from Sisters who had surgery the same week as you. Please don’t be shy to post, we are all in this together. And remember: If you're wondering something, others are wondering about it too. There are no silly questions, so please ask!

I am your Hostess and I will be checking in daily during your initial recovery period, which is generally 4 to 8 weeks, depending on your type of surgery. I will be posting articles, answering your questions, and sending lots of gentle hugs!

Initially we may be concerned about:

  • Swelly belly
  • Gas
  • Bathroom issues
  • Emotions
  • Fatigue
These things are all a normal part of recovery and most of us experience a few (if not all!) of these issues. You are not alone!

It’s very important to:
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Rest, nap, sleep, & rest some more
  • Take your pain meds as prescribed around the clock to stay ahead of the pain
  • Walk a little each hour that you are not sleeping
  • Put away your Wonder Woman cape
  • Listen to your body
Now is the time to settle in and take care of You. We only have one chance to heal properly, and This Is It. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your recovery journey!

Done and home! Got to come home last night. It was a rough night. A lot of cramping, super dry mouth and difficultly peeing. However m as the hours have gone by today, I feel like I’m on a good pace for recovery. I’ve only been taking Tylenol and Advil because narcotic pain meds make me ill. It would probably have been much easier if I did tolerate them. I have my sister and husband to help me and they’ve been great. I’m so glad I am a member here. A lot of what happened would have scared me if hystersisters hadn’t prepared me so well. Thank you sisters!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 29-Jul 05,2020

My vaginal hyst was yesterday, and I got to go home on the same day. Everything went great! I felt validated when the doc told me that my uterus appeared to have adenomyosis (I self diagnosed a long time ago, but can’t be certain until pathology). I’ve been taking the Percocet she gave me and ibuprofen at regular intervals, and I feel no worse than a usual painful period so far. One thing I found interesting was that I immediately had this sense of the central area of pain being gone, which was truly amazing. I plan to continue to rest today.

I had mine yesterday and will be going home today. Everything went smoothly. Quite painful when meds are due. Currently on hydromorphone every 2 hours. Today is Canada day so my 2 young ones (2&4) will be home too, so I hope I'll get the rest I need when I get home.

Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 29-Jul 05,2020

My hysterectomy was yesterday, and I was able to go home the same day (laparoscopic surgery).

Due to COVID restrictions, only patients were allowed in the building. My husband could only drop me off and pick me up. I am SO grateful for this website!! Thanks to the info I received here, I had a better idea of what to expect when I entered the hospital. (This was my first surgery ever, so it felt like a big deal to me.)

My surgery went well, and the doctor also removed endometriosis that he discovered during the surgery.

My husband is taking time off work to be with me. I’m resting a lot.

Although I was nervous about the surgery, I’m already so glad that I had it done. I know that every day will get a easier and little less painful.

Again, I’m so grateful for the info and support here!!

to Aimeej, klm024, gabbotron, petsrunmylife!!

I'm so glad that you are feeling well enough to post!! So nice to see you on the Other Side!!

You are oh-so-early post op and need lots of TLC. You may find that you have a sore throat and that is quite common after having a breathing tube. Cool water, ice chips or throat lozenges should help. Another unpleasant side effect of surgery is gas pains. Lots of water and short walks around the house/hospital ward as tolerated help move the gas out of your system. Peppermint tea, flat ginger ale, and Gas X provide relief too.

If the gas pains are in your shoulders, wet a towel and warm in the microwave. Moist heat helps draw the gases out.

Remember it helps to take your pain medication regularly as ordered to stay ahead of the pain. In a day or two, you may feel like you don't need your pain meds, but please keep them handy, because unfortunately that could change very quickly.

Rest well my sweet Princesses and please keep the updates coming!!

Sending you all

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 29-Jul 05,2020

Constipation is a big concern after major surgery, and even more so after hysterectomy, as we have swelling & stitches down below... which means we don’t want to push or strain. Eat high fiber foods (pears, almonds, peas, bran, prune juice), drink lots of water, walk as you feel able, and take stool softeners. Be careful to only push very gently. If nothing is “happening”, get up and walk around the house for a few minutes, then try again. Gas pain can be horrible! For me it settled in my shoulders and for a few days it was my chief complaint. Some sisters find relief by wetting a hand towel and microwaving it so it's warm (but not hot) and then placing it where you are feeling the most discomfort from gas. The moist heat will help to draw the gas out. Another idea is using a moist heating pad (which can be bought at most drugstores). For intestinal gas: peppermint or ginger tea, Gas X and walking can be the best ways to get relief. You are in the earliest-of-early stages, Sisters. Lots of TLC for you!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 29-Jul 05,2020

My visit to the castle was Monday. I was released on Tues.

Recovery hasn't been too bad, once we got my pain under control. I did end up going to the er with a migraine that wouldn't go away. They blamed that on an anesthesia hangover.

I did ask about why the gas pain has been worse this time around. I was told that due to covid, they had to change how they release the gas and the new method isn't as effective.

Now, just waiting for the call of the throne, to meet my next milestone.

Walking has gotten easier each time I try. Keep getting yelled at by hubby for attempting the stairs twice today. I told him I wore a path in the floor and needed a change of scenery. I make at least 1 lap around my main floor hourly.

Hugs to my sister princesses!

Hello Lovely Ladies! Welcome to SeeMe, we are so happy you've joined us!

Don't forget to drink lots of water, walk as you feel able and feel free to nap as much as you like! I suggest taking your pain meds as prescribed around the clock for the first few days... it's easier to stay ahead of the pain rather than try to get on top of it once you're hurting.

Getting comfortable post op was one of my chief complaints, and this discomfort can last for a while. For back aches, try a heating pad. I my heating pad post op and alternated it from my back to my neck to my tummy. Strategically placed pillows can also be very helpful. Experiment with different sizes and firmness and place behind your back, under your knees, etc. Getting in/out of bed can be difficult for the first week or two. Many women find sleeping in a recliner to be much more comfortable.
